CHATEAU LABASTIDE ORLIAC

Winery in South-West, Garonne, Brulhois

About the Winery

Château Labastide Orliac is located in the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne, between Bordeaux, Cahors, and Madiran, on the first hillsides overlooking the Garonne Valley.

Run by two sisters, Isabelle and Catherine Orliac, this 12-hectare family estate continues a long-standing winemaking tradition dating back to 1750. A historic document signed by King Louis XVI bears witness to this heritage, granting protection to one of their ancestors, a wine merchant who was an official supplier to the royal court at Versailles.

The estate is the only property of the Brulhois appellation located on the right bank of the Garonne. The vineyard thrives on a terroir of clay and limestone soils, with natural slopes that ensure excellent drainage and ideal conditions for vine cultivation.

Today, Château Labastide Orliac welcomes visitors to discover its wines during friendly tastings and winery visits, in a place rich in history, authenticity, and passion.

About the Wines

Château Labastide Orliac produces on average 450 hectolitres of red wine and 80 hectolitres of white wine each year. The red wines are blends dominated by Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot, Tannat, and Abouriou, a traditional regional grape variety. These wines are structured, expressive, and offer excellent aging potential. The white wines combine Gros Manseng, Chardonnay, Petit Courbu, and Sauvignon, resulting in fresh, elegant, and aromatic wines.

Red Wines:

Deux Sœurs – A supple and refined wine with aromas of ripe fruit and gentle spices.

Château Labastide Orliac – The estate’s flagship cuvée, generous and structured, with notes of blackberry, liquorice, and spices, enjoyable both young or after aging.

Prince Rouge – A fine and complex cuvée, beautifully balanced between fruit and tannins, appealing both now and after a few years of cellaring.

Royal Héritage 1780 – An exceptional single-varietal Cabernet Franc, released as Vin de France.

White Wines:

Prince Charmant – A balanced wine that is both round and lively, with notes of apricot and white flowers, perfect for an aperitif.

Deux Sœurs Blanc – A dry and creamy white wine with a long finish and mineral nuances.

Prince Blanc – A structured dry white that is both fresh and generous, ideal with fish and cheeses.

Royal Héritage Blanc – A rich and elegant dry white wine with exotic and mineral notes.

The wines are vinified in small concrete tanks of 20 and 50 hectolitres. They then spend one year aging in oak barrels, followed by an additional year in tanks before bottling. The installation of these small-capacity tanks in 2018 has allowed the winery to achieve more elegant extractions, fruit-forward profiles, and more precise blends, thanks to grapes harvested at optimal maturity from each vineyard parcel.

A grand yet subtle experience
The 7th generation owners and sisters were truly inviting and welcoming. The residence has an interesting history right back to Roman times, and has been in the same family since at least 1750. Suppliers to the royals in previous generations we were treated with the same charm and respect, bravo France.
