Clos de Luz is a family-owned winery founded in 1945 by Luz, our grandmother, in the heart of the Almahue Valley, one of the most recognized regions for Carménère in Chile. Today, the fourth generation has taken the reins, with a deep commitment to preserving our heritage while innovating with modern viticulture techniques. The Almahue Valley offers a unique microclimate, ideal for producing high-quality wines, especially from Carménère, which has become our signature varietal. At Clos de Luz, we pride ourselves on sustainability and natural farming practices, focusing on maintaining the health and biodiversity of our vineyards. At Clos de Luz, our wines are a direct expression of the Almahue Valley’s rich terroir and the ancient Carménère vines we carefully tend. Our vineyards, planted in 1945, hold some of Chile’s oldest Carménère vines, allowing us to produce wines that are rich in history and flavor. Using the Massal Selection method, our vines are never grafted or cloned, ensuring the authenticity and diversity of each grape. Our winemaking philosophy revolves around minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to fully express their natural character. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, and aging takes place in a combination of French oak foudres, clay amphorae, and large oak barrels, resulting in wines that are fresh, elegant, and fruit-driven. Whether it’s our Carménère, Malbec, or Cabernet Sauvignon, each wine reflects our dedication to craftsmanship and the unique qualities of our land.
