X PRESE is a family-owned winery located in the scenic countryside of Venice, a region deeply connected to water management and agricultural innovation. The estate’s history dates back to the early 19th century, when Gaetano Testa, an ancestor of the Putti family, worked on hydraulic projects under the Austrian government. The winery’s name, X PRESE, derives from “Prese,” a term referring to the sections of land served by a single hydraulic pump. The current estate is situated on what was the tenth Presa, a symbol of the land's rich history.

In the early 1900s, the Putti family inherited the estate and introduced agronomic innovations, shaping it into a forward-thinking, sustainable winery. Today, Mario Putti, a professor of environmental sciences at the University of Padua, continues this tradition of innovation and sustainability. Alongside his daughters and nephews, Mario leads the winery with a deep respect for the land and a passion for preserving its natural beauty. At X PRESE, our winemaking is centered around the Friularo grape, an indigenous red variety known for its vibrant acidity and robust tannins. This unique grape allows us to produce wines of great structure, complexity, and aging potential, as well as lighter, more approachable reds with the hallmark freshness of Friularo. Our careful vineyard practices ensure that each wine reflects the full expression of this exceptional grape, with minimal intervention and a focus on natural processes.
