Domaine des Vallettes - Maison Jamet
(Winery in Loire Valley, Bourgueil, Touraine)
About Winery and Wines
Domaine des Vallettes is owned and run by brothers François and Antoine Jamet, who took over from their parents 20 years ago. It is 4km west of St Nicolas de Bourgueil itself – about half way between Tours and Angers, in France’s Loire Valley. They farm vineyards across three neighbouring appellations: St Nicolas de Bourgueil AOC (20ha), Bourgueil (5ha) and Anjou (3ha). And, although the Jamet family have been viticulturists in St Nicolas de Bourgueil for the last 8 generations, Domaine des Vallettes was created in 1986.
"We make wines that represent that special combination of natural and human factors that determine the unique taste of each wine, known as “terroir”. The natural factors of terroir include climate and weather (which affect the vintage), soil type, and subsoil. Human factors include viticultural techniques (grape varieties, pruning methods, …) and vinification practices (temperature, maturation, etc). All our red and rosé wines are made from Cabernet Franc. The wines also resemble the winemakers who made them – convivial, accessible, joyful, and with lots of character !"
The rosé should be drunk young. It is a festive wine, served chilled. It is perfect for receptions, aperitifs, entrees, barbecues, fish, and small, tasty, summer fruit tarts.
The first level of red tastes well in its youth offering enjoyment with its fruit and its tannins well matured. You will not be taking any risk if you keep it in your cellar for five years. It should be drunk at room temperature. When it is young, serve it with red meats, poultries and cheeses. Do not hesitate to be daring by serving it a little chilled with a fish in sauce. If you let it age, you can serve it with a good matured cheese.
The power of Vieilles Vignes requires a correspondingly powerful dish. It is a wine for meat in a strong sauce, game, and cheese. To surprise your guests try and match it with a spicy, oriental dish. Decanting it will make it at its best.
For our premium you should not hesitate to decant it into a carafe before tasting, so that the wine releases all its aromatic mosaic. This wine of exception can be drunk alone.... but accompanied is even better !
