Elena Fucci

Winery in Vulture

About the Winery

Elena Fucci Winery, established in 2000, is a testament to the deep connection between family, tradition, and the unique terroir of Mount Vulture. The winery is located in the old premises beneath the family residence, Torre TITOLO, where Elena's grandfather, Generoso, once stored his tractor and agricultural equipment. A significant transformation took place when the first extension was dug directly into the volcanic rock to create a barrel cellar, marking the beginning of the winery's evolution.

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for harvesting, bottling, and labeling, the winery makes the most of every available space, including even the garage of Elena's father, Salvatore, to ensure meticulous care for their signature wine, TITOLO. Recently, a new winery was completed adjacent to the original cellar, connected by a tunnel carved through volcanic rock. This new structure is built according to ecological design principles, using recycled materials and incorporating technologies that minimize environmental impact and energy consumption.

The story of Elena Fucci Winery is one of passion and dedication. In the 1960s, Elena's grandfather, Generoso, purchased the highest part of the vineyard in Contrada Solagna of Titolo, at the foot of the extinct Mount Vulture. For decades, the family nurtured these vineyards, selling most of the grapes while keeping a small amount to make wine for personal use. However, by the late 1990s, the family contemplated selling the six hectares of land, believing it too much to manage for mere enjoyment, especially as Elena and her siblings were poised to leave for university.

Yet, when faced with the prospect of losing the vineyard that had been part of her family's life for generations, Elena experienced a profound change of heart. She could not bear the thought of another name producing wine from the oldest vineyards on Mount Vulture—vines that are 55-60 years old, with some over 70 years old. This emotional connection led Elena to abandon her original plans and instead, invest in the land that had sustained her family for generations.

Elena Fucci Winery stands as a symbol of this commitment, producing wines that are not only a reflection of the unique volcanic terroir but also of the love and care that the Fucci family has poured into their land.

About the Wines

At Elena Fucci Winery, the work in the vineyard transcends traditional viticulture, embracing the art of gardening to provide exceptional care to the vines. This approach is rooted in a deep respect for nature and its cycles, avoiding the use of chemicals entirely. Even the vines are tied with broom fibers, and dried during the summer, maintaining a natural and sustainable practice. The focus is exclusively on grapes grown in the estate’s vineyard, ensuring a direct connection between the land and the wine. There is always a sense of responsibility when the grapes reach the winery, with a concern that the winemaking process might not fully honor the fruits of the harvest. However, the rewarding outcome justifies the meticulous efforts invested in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Beautiful experience
We were welcomed by Elena Fucci in person who guided us through the winery offering interesting information about the wine production and the history of the winery. We did the tour in English because two of the participants were English speakers.
The tasting was very nice, we had a room with a large table all to ourselves and, after pouring us the wines and providing a lot of information, Elena left us alone to enjoy the moment.
