About Winery and Wines
Fattoria La Ripa, a historic estate owned by S.A. Santa Brigida since 1940, has roots dating back to the 15th century. The property was once owned by Antonio Maria di Noldo Gherardini, father of Monna Lisa, famously painted by Leonardo da Vinci. A portion of the estate was given as dowry for her marriage to Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo. The main house, already marked on historical maps of the Capitani di Parte Guelfa, is located along an ancient “Via di Cresta” (Ridge Road), a historic route connecting Val di Pesa and Florence with Val d’Elsa and the Via Francigena, a key path used by Crusaders traveling through Siena and Rome to Apulia.
Nestled on the border between Florence and Siena, Fattoria La Ripa lies in the heart of the High Chianti Classico zone, within the townships of Barberino Val d’Elsa and Castellina in Chianti. The estate spans 140 hectares, with 16 hectares of vineyards, of which 12 hectares are officially registered as Chianti Classico DOCG. Beyond vineyards, the land is cultivated with olive groves, grains, and extensive woodlands, preserving the rich natural landscape of this historic estate.
Fattoria La Ripa produces a selection of organic wines and artisanal products that reflect the rich heritage of the Chianti Classico region. The wine portfolio includes Chianti Classico DOCG 2022, Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva 2020, and Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2019, all carrying the Fattoria La Ripa Organic label. The estate also crafts IGT Colli Toscana Centrale 2022 Santa Brigida, a Supertuscan that showcases the region’s winemaking excellence.
In addition to wines, Fattoria La Ripa produces Grappa Riserva di Chianti Classico, Extravirgin Olive Oil, and Aceto Balsamico IGP di Modena, all organic and crafted with the same dedication to quality and tradition that defines the estate.
