About Winery and Wines
Fattoria Majnoni Guicciardini is a family-owned estate nestled in the Chianti hills, overlooking San Gimignano. Established in 1870, the estate has been practicing organic and regenerative farming since 2001, maintaining traditional Tuscan crop diversification. The landscape features alternating vineyards, olive groves, crops, and woodlands, preserving the authentic agricultural heritage of the region.
The estate invites visitors to explore its vineyards, 17th-century manor house, ancient cellars, and enchanted garden, offering a cultural and sensory experience that includes tastings of organic wines and olive oil, paired with local, freshly prepared meals.
Historically, the farm's central buildings in Vico d'Elsa were originally used as a hospital and shelter for travelers during the Middle Ages, situated at the crossroads of important trade routes like the Francigene and Volterrane. Over time, the property transformed into a private residence for notable Florentine and Sienese families before being purchased by the Guicciardini family in 1871.
Since the mid-20th century, the farm transitioned from sharecropping to direct management by the family, spearheaded by Pietro Majnoni d'Intignano, who implemented organic farming methods and improved the estate's sustainability. Today, his son Cesare joins in managing Fattoria Majnoni Guicciardini, focusing on winemaking, marketing, and customer experiences, continuing the family's dedication to producing high-quality organic wines.
Fattoria Majnoni Guicciardini produces a range of organic wines, each reflecting the richness of the Tuscan terroir and the estate's long-standing traditions:
- Sparéto – Tuscan White IGT: This white wine is a blend of Chardonnay fermented in barrels, and Malvasia Bianca and Trebbiano fermented in steel. The combination of Tuscan and French grape varieties, along with 24 hours of skin maceration, gives Sparéto a savory note and complexity.
- Rosato Toscano IGT: Made primarily from Ciliegiolo grapes with small amounts of Sangiovese and Trebbiano, this organic rosé is pressed after a night of skin maceration, offering a deep color and a full-bodied profile.
- Chianti DOCG: A fresh and fruity Chianti made from Sangiovese, with the addition of other Tuscan varieties to soften its tannins. It captures the essence of traditional Chianti with its vibrant acidity and varietal expression.
- Chianti Superiore DOCG: A more structured wine that has been produced since 1965, this Chianti Superiore is aged in both concrete and oak. It shows well in its youth but reaches its peak after six years.
- Chianti Riserva DOCG: Produced only in the best vintages, this wine is made from the ripest grapes, with a long maceration period of three weeks and aging in barriques. Its elegance develops with bottle aging and it reaches its full potential between six and ten years after harvest.
These wines represent the dedication of the Majnoni family to organic winemaking and preserving the Tuscan tradition.
