Feldtheorie

Feldtheorie is a small, organic boutique winery based in the Kamptal region of Austria, founded in 2022 by Ulrike Filp and Robert Bormuth. The name comes from physics, where it describes the transmission of information—an idea that perfectly reflects the winery’s philosophy: the vine transmits the essence of soil, climate, vintage, and human care into the wine.

With an annual production of around 10,000 bottles, Feldtheorie focuses on low-intervention, handcrafted wines, minimizing mechanical work both in the vineyard and cellar. The vineyards, located around Langenlois, benefit from a unique terroir shaped by gneiss, loess, and gravel soils, as well as the contrasting influences of warm Pannonian days and cool Waldviertel nights. The result is a dynamic environment ideal for producing expressive wines.

Together with friends and family, the founders pursue one clear goal: to faithfully transmit the identity of Kamptal through their wines.

The wines of Feldtheorie are crafted with a natural, low-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration, and minimal use of sulphur, allowing each wine to express its origin with clarity.

The “Relativ” series represents the classical expression of Kamptal terroir with room for experimentation. Relativ Weiss, made from Grüner Veltliner across different vineyard sites, reflects the diversity of soils and microclimates. Relativ Rot, from Zweigelt, is crafted using traditional methods including foot crushing and fermentation with stems, followed by aging in used oak barrels. Relativ Fumé is a Sauvignon Blanc matured in French oak barriques on lees, adding texture and complexity.

The “Definitiv” wines focus on single vineyards: Ried Spiegel and Ried Freiheit for Grüner Veltliner, and Ried Steinmassl for Riesling, each expressing the unique character of its site. Together, these wines offer a precise and authentic interpretation of Kamptal.
