About Winery and Wines

Vini Gagliardi was built in 1955 by Gino Gagliardi, founder and father of the current owners, Umberto and Lara. Umberto is the winemaker, and he also deals with the commercial part; Lara is the administration and accounting manager. Lately, Alessandra, the daughter of Umberto, has joined the family business, and she deals with social communication and sales. Thus, we are a small family business based in Matelica, a little town in the hinterland of the Marche Region, known for its Verdicchio wine. We are now celebrating our 70th anniversary.

We cultivate 11 hectares of vineyard, divided into 3 different locations around Matelica, and we produce wine exclusively from our own grapes. Our production is around 40 thousands bottles.

We are a company with a low environmental impact, and our wines are zero-residue, meaning there are no chemical residues in the wine resulting from vineyard treatments. Our intention is to respect the environment and the final customer with our good, genuine products.

80% of our production is represented by Matelica Verdicchio, a white wine made from the non-aromatic Verdicchio grape, typical of the Marche Region and in particular of Matelica. We produce two labels of Verdicchio: the entry level called "Gagliardi selection", made from a selection of grapes from three different vineyards; and our Reserve, called Maccagnano, like one of the statues of the fountain in the central square of Matelica. Maccagnano Reserve is made from a single historic vineyard from 1967, and it is refined for almost one year in concrete barrels. Vintage 2022 has been the 30th year of production of our Maccagnano Reserve, and it has been awarded by the Slow Wine guide as one of the Italian Top Wines. Our white wines are fermented in steel and refined in concrete barrels.

The remaining 20% of our production is represented by 4 monovarietal red wines: Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, called Ceresi as the name of the location of the vineyard, and 2 merlot, one of which is a reserve, called Ardiale, refined for two years in concrete and for 7 months in new oak wood barrels.
