About Winery and Wines

Founded in 1854 by the descendants of the Duke of Lencastre, surrounded by cork trees and eucalyptus from Australia, Herdada da Calada is hidden between the soft hills of Alentejo. Over the years it was targeted by several interventions and improvements, but preserves the beauty and elegance of the original main building and is today one of the most modern and innovative winery in Portugal, with an enoturism unit, 35 hectares of vineyard, 110 hectares of olive trees, 60 hectares of cereals, 215 of cork trees and a beautiful guest house.

The philosophy of the Winery is to maintain the regional characteristics and character of all the wines, without losing site of the goal of producing State of the Art wines. Of the 420 hectares of land that compose the Herdade da Calada only 35 are vineyard. The low production is not by chance, and even less a fatality: it is a conscience option for quality instead of quantity, and the assurance of top of the line wines, made from the Alentejo main casts, with full respect for nature and the region. Situated in central Alentejo, the vineyard enjoys the dark Mediterranean soils, in a warm and dry landscape, that characterizes the area.
