About Winery and Wines

Luigi Illica was a playwright and librettist of our area. He abandoned his career of study and lived adventurously, since he was intolerant with the family discipline. He dedicated himself to theatre writing some comedies and especially libretti since 1892. He is one of the most important librettists of the post-Verdi period and he worked for Giacomo Puccini, Alfredo Catalani, Umberto Giordano and many other musicians. He died at the age of 65 in Colombarone, a hillock close to Castell’Arquato.

We just produce wines of selected grapes from our ORGANIC vineyards. They are the result of an ancient experience of Piacenza vignerons. For us, Illica, vinification is ART, a passion and a lifestyle. Out methods are traditional: screening of the best grapes and manual harvesting; and then, modern technologies in the cellar in order to have wines reflecting the tradition of our area and, at the same time, following the new trends.
