About Winery and Wines
La Giuva wines embody the essence of Trezzolano, a charming village in the upper Squaranto Valley. The area is defined by its hilly, calcareous terrain and the cooling influence of rolling winds, creating an ideal environment for cultivating native grape varieties.
The vineyard is home to Corvina, with its medium-sized, winged bunches ("recie"), Corvinone, known for its large, loose clusters, Rondinella, with its bluish-black, round berries, and Oseleta, recognized for its small bunches and exceptional structure and color. These vines are nurtured through medium-dense Espalier rows, adhering to certified sustainable organic agricultural practices.
La Giuva captures the rich character of this unique terroir, celebrating the traditions and vitality of the land in every bottle.
La Giuva’s vineyards feature an unconventional east-west orientation, a departure from the typical north-south alignment of the Squaranto Valley. This “Esposizione Contraria” (Reverse Aspect), unique to the area, enhances grape ripening, producing fruit with a higher sugar-to-alcohol ratio, resulting in wines with exceptional flavor and intensity.
The Espalier technique is employed to support vine growth in challenging calcareous soils, with supplemental irrigation available to ensure optimal water supply. Advanced mechanical technology plays a vital role in vineyard management. Specialized tractors navigate the rugged terrain with ease and precision, utilizing tools designed for efficient soil cultivation. Grassed rows maintain soil structure, while green-manure cover crops are introduced as needed to enrich the land.
These innovative practices aim to strike a perfect balance between the quality of the terroir and the grapes it yields. The results speak for themselves, as the vineyard consistently produces exceptional fruit, setting a new standard for viticulture in the region.
