About Winery and Wines

Domaine La Méchinière is a unique setting in the Cher Valley, home to eight grape varieties, half of which are rare and some originating from pre-phylloxera vines planted before 1890. The vines grow on the left bank, on the first slopes of the valley, where flinty silico-clay soils are renowned for producing wines of great aromatic finesse. Among the grapes cultivated are Orbois and Chenin in a rare pre-phylloxera co-plantation, planted before 1890, as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Fié Gris, Gamay, Cabernet Franc, Côt, including a century-old vine planted in provignage, and Pineau d’Aunis, now extremely rare in the valley. The well-being of the vines is considered essential to the harmony of the land and its inhabitants, and this balance is reflected in the wines of Domaine La Méchinière. The soil is worked to provide the oxygenation needed for its subterranean life, while the natural flora regulates itself, enriching the earth and encouraging a more balanced fauna. Traditional pruning methods such as gobelet and Royat cordon are favored to preserve the vines, resulting in smaller, more concentrated grape yields that enhance the wines’ character. Harvesting is carried out by hand, vinifications are gentle and unhurried, fermentations rely on indigenous flora, and the wines are left unfiltered to settle naturally before being aged patiently to reach balance and full expression.

Domaine La Méchinière crafts wines that are both pure varietal and blended, whether under the AOC Touraine designation or as Vins de France, always produced using natural methods without artifice or embellishment. The quality of each harvest guides the orientation and creation of the cuvées, whose availability may vary depending on the vintage. A wide range is offered in four colors—white, orange, rosé, and red—each cuvée distinguished by its own personality. Certified organic by ECOCERT FR-BIO-01 since 2013, Domaine La Méchinière reflects a commitment to authenticity and respect for the land in every bottle.
