La Nascosta

Winery in Val d'Orcia, Amiata Mountain

About the Winery

LaNascosta is a wine producing estate located at the outskirt of the medieval village of Castiglione d’Orcia, in the southern part of the Siena Province in Tuscany. It is positioned in a territory particularly suited for viniculture, at a bird view of Montalcino and Montepulciano, two of the most renown wine producing areas in Italy. Dominated by the Monte Amiata extinct Vulcan, the Estate faces the southern slopes of the Val D’Orcia. Although it is located at a walking distance of Castiglione D’Orcia, La Nascosta is invisible from the village, of which its name, meaning “The Hidden”.

The Nascosta cellar is embedded in the hillside, with a long façade of stones coming from rocks extracted from the vineyard fields, combined with Corten panels and a garden cover. Fully integrated in the landscape, the cellar confirms the name of La Nascosta as the “Hidden” Estate. Consistent with the different varieties, the grapes are separately treated and aged in steel and cement vats or in tonneaux (micro-vinification). Using the modern technologies, such as full temperature and humidity control, and careful and continuous professional follow-up, the wines are accompanied in their evolution to achieve the highest quality end-product.

About the Wines

The types of grapes planted by La Nascosta are many. They include particular clones of the Sangiovese variety that has made red Tuscan wines famous, but not only. Recognizing the potential of the soils and micro-climate that characterize some of its plots, the Estate also planted non-indigenous white grapes varieties such as Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, in addition to the local Moscato and Malvasia vines. Although a challenge, the strategy has permitted to exalt the best features of the different grapes, let it be their perfumes, color or structure. By so doing, La Nascosta has been able to produce several great, but well distinguished white wines, in addition to a rosé, two red and a dessert (passito) wines.

La Nascosta wines currently on the market are:
MACCHIALUNA - White - 60% Petit Manseng 40% Sauvignon Blanc
MOSCAMINER - White - 50% Moscato 50% Traminer
GISSO - White - 100% Sauvignon Blanc
CHARD’Ó - White - 100% Chardonnay
ROSAMATTO 2019 Rosè - 70% Sauvignon Blanc - 30% Black Muscat
SALTAMACCHIA - Red - 90% Sangiovese - 10% Merlot
GIOVESONE - Red - 100% Sangiovese

La Nascosta
We felt really welcome and got a lot of explanations and interesting stories about the origin of the wine. Best wine tasting we ever had.
The Tuscan chardonnay was amazing!

An extraordinary experience
We were looking for something close to our hotel and ended up with a tasting at La Nascosta. It was very special. The wine was exquisite, and the tour was amazing with plenty to learn and a delightful tasting experience. I can only recommend going, especially because it is so different from other typical Tuscan wine experiences, as it mainly produces white wine.

Incredible welcome, quality and learning
We chose Cantina La Nascosta for its proximity to our home and for the interesting variety of its white wine selection. Well, this experience exceeded all our expectations!

Luca was an impeccable host: welcoming, friendly and with a great passion for his work. He guided us, in a simple and friendly way, through all the stages of his production, from the harvest to the bottling.
The tasting of the seven La Nascosta wines was a real pleasure, both for the room where it takes place (truly beautiful) and because it was enriched by Luca's explanations, which transformed the drinking into a learning opportunity about the world of winemaking.

The quality-to-price ratio is truly excellent. An experience that I not only highly recommend, but that we hope to repeat as soon as possible!

Excellent
Very beautiful, excellent wine, a superlative visit in a place where professionalism is the watchword. Recommended, just be careful of the road which is a bit rough.

An excellent experience
The visit to the "La Nascosta" winery is something unique and special in every sense: from the arrival, along a dirt road among the vineyards, which effectively hides the structure, to the building, modern and perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape thanks to the use of local materials, all the way to the actual tour and tasting.
The explanation of their production processes was interesting and easy to understand, even for "non-experts", the tasting was meticulous in every detail and the wines tasted were well explained in all their particularities.
An absolute must-try!

Quality
A work of art is created, more than just a simple wine.
A company with a lot of experience and infinite commitment.
They are always continuously searching to raise the quality of the product more and more.
Very high quality wines
Fix the road to reach the vineyard: with a low car it is practically unreachable.

Tasting in the heart of Val d’Orcia
An experience to be absolutely recommended: immersed in greenery and surrounded by vineyards, the winery is located in a modern structure set into the hill. Excellent welcome from the owner and then from the sommelier: a detailed explanation both outside and inside the winery itself. Love and passion accompany the entire experience, with a tasting of excellent wines (you can perceive the study and refinement). The accompaniment of local cured meats and cheeses was also spot-on.
An experience suitable for both novices and experts.
More than fair price. Impossible to leave without buying at least one bottle.
