About Winery and Wines
Macchie Santa Maria is a distinguished winery nestled in the lush landscape of Irpinia, in the heart of Southern Italy. This region, renowned for its rich winemaking heritage, serves as the perfect backdrop for our pursuit of creating wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of the land. Founded in 2010 by the passionate and entrepreneurial Oreste De Santis, Macchie Santa Maria embodies a dynamic approach to winemaking, blending traditional methods with innovative practices to produce wines of exceptional quality. Located in the charming town of Montemiletto, our winery meticulously selects the best vineyard sites to cultivate indigenous grape varieties. Every step of the winemaking process, from vineyard management to cellar practices, is handled with the utmost care and attention. Our mission is to capture and express the richness of Irpinia, a land that continues to enchant all who experience it.
At Macchie Santa Maria, we are dedicated to crafting wines that showcase the full potential of Irpinia's indigenous grape varieties. Our portfolio includes 11 distinct labels, featuring a selection of 4 red wines, a rosé, a sparkling white, and 5 still white wines. Each wine is a testament to the impressive aging potential and complex aromatic profiles that define our region.
The Falanghina grape shines in both our Irpina Falanghina Spumante DOC Extra Brut, a lively sparkling wine perfect for celebrations, and our still Irpina Falanghina DOC, which offers fresh and vibrant fruit aromas. Our white wine offerings also include expressions of Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, available in both standard and Reserva versions, with the latter offering enhanced aging and complexity.
Our rosé, the Irpinia Rosato DOC, is made from the Aglianico grape, harvested early to produce a dry, fruity wine with a deep, joyful color—ideal for summer enjoyment. The Aglianico grape also forms the basis of our red wine collection, culminating in the renowned Taurasi DOCG and Taurasi Riserva DOCG, both powerful and elegant wines that exemplify the best of Southern Italy's winemaking traditions.
