Sono venuto con mia moglie a fare questa fantastica e suggestiva esperienza durante le vacanze estive. Le proprietarie dell'azienda sono state gentilissime ed hanno curato il tutto fino al più piccolo dettaglio.

About Winery and Wines

The company was established in 1967. Since then, it has been producing wines by leveraging the resources of a proud, untamed, and deeply dedicated land. It belongs to the Malaspina family, where each member contributes differently to the production process. Consolato, the founder and cornerstone; Franca, his wife and the central figure of the staff/family; and their four daughters, Domenica, Caterina, Irene, and Patrizia, who are involved in management, administration, production, and promotion.

The winery, where the grapes are received and processed and where the resulting wines undergo maturation and refinement, is located in Melito di Porto Salvo, a municipality in the province of Reggio Calabria, situated by the sea.

The company produces grapes on a 9-hectare area, including owned and leased land, and olive oil from a 3-hectare olive grove. Here, a meticulous harvesting and careful pressing of Carolea and Nocella olives give rise to an exceptionally high-quality extra virgin olive oil. The vineyards are situated in the town of Palizzi, in the Dareri district, at an elevation of about 500 meters, where Nocera and Calabrese Nero vines are cultivated using the alberello method. They are also located in the municipality of Melito di Porto Salvo, where Gaglioppo and Magliocco vines are grown using the spalliera (trellis) method. These vineyards share a hilly position and a marvelous exposure. Each of them offers a different view of the Ionian Sea. These places are enchanting, and walking among the rows, you get the sensation that time has stood still. No noise from the so-called "civilized" modern world penetrates here, and the surrounding landscape is both beautiful and wild.

We have been producing wine with perseverance and dedication since 1967, making use of the resources that this highly suited land offers. The winery began in 1967 when Consolato Malaspina's interest in the world of winemaking turned into a passion and, subsequently, his calling. Since then, he has dedicated his life with perseverance and love to producing wines in a land where the resources are highly conducive to this craft. Consolato has the merit of successfully passing on his love for the land and winemaking to his four daughters: Domenica, Caterina, Irene, and Patrizia. They are committed to carrying forward the age-old traditions that are an integral part of Calabria.

Nestled in a proud, wild, and captivating land, the winery is situated at the extreme tip of Calabria, a region that is continually evolving. Calabria, with its thousand faces, is where green hills cascade toward the sea, collecting scents and flavors along the way. It is within this landscape that the winery finds its home.

A majestic location, all of the vineyards afford views of the sea and offer incredible vistas of the surrounding countryside. The vineyards in the town of Palizzi, specifically in the area known as Dareri, are perched at an altitude of almost 700 meters above sea level. They experience significant weather variations, and the excellent pedoclimatic conditions favor the production of high-quality grapes imbued with character. Equally well-exposed and ventilated, the new vineyards in the town of Melito, particularly in the Santucci and Ungi areas, thrive. Predominantly cultivated varieties include Calabrese Nero, Nocera, Gaglioppo, and Magliocco Dolce, while others are cultivated in smaller quantities. This area remains untouched by the noise of the so-called "civilized" world, and the surrounding landscape retains its beauty and wild allure. The rugged hills are divided into terraces overlooking the sea. The rest of the Malaspina wines are crafted by skilled Calabrian winemakers, forming a strong relationship based on collaboration and trust.
