Amazing time!

Beautiful area. Owner was very personable and took his time to give you an immersive experience. Food and wine pairing was incredible. We had bread with jam and cheese for our first pairing, bread and olive oil as second pairing, and homemade chorizo as the last.
Send a text to the owner get the exact location of the Vineyard, especially if you are intending on getting their by driving.

Charmant vignoble

Bella esperienza!

Wonderful Visit

We stayed here on an overnight visit to Douro. The rooms were small, but comfortable. The breakfast buffet was ample, with lots of pastries, fruit, hot foods, etc. The onsite wine-tasting cost a small amount, but it's worth doing to try their wine and port.

An emersive and personalised vineyard experience

From the moment you arrive it is clear that this is no ordinary wine-tasting tour. Rafael welcomes you to the family home with open arms and a smile. He takes you for a brief stroll around the vineyards and gives both a history of the company and some great insights into the growing and production processes. At no point does it feel like scripted patter, and his passion is evident.
Then back into the family home, where you are provided with great food and a fun tasting experience which feels like you're with a close personal friend.
Rafael offers great insights into food and wine pairings and isn't at all technical or condescending. You'll come away feeling like you'll always be welcome back, and there is no hard-sell of the produce. The wines themselves are of really high quality, and have been added my import list!..
The tastings at other quintas felt more sterile in comparison.
This is not a place to miss!!

We had a wonderful time with Raffaela at his vineyard. We were shown around the vineyard, learnt about the different ways the vines are grown and a bit about wine in the Douro region.

The tasting was brilliant - we tasted 4 different wines and there was great bread, cheese and olive oil - grown at the vineyard - to go with it.

A fabulous first experience of Douro - I would definitely go back!

Perfect afternoon of wine, food and conversation

Rate: 5 out of 5 10/1/23
Our party of four just spent a wonderful afternoon with Rafael of Maõs e Irmãos. The quinta is a very short walk from the Rede train station and the setting is bucolic. We were provided very generous tastings of five of their wines - a rose, three whites and a red - served alongside cheeses, ham and prepared bites from their working farm.

Rafa (one of the "irmãos") was a very engaging host and forward-thinking winemaker who shared his visions of what they are trying to accomplish in both "the (overall) project" of the winery/farm and the individual wines. Really interesting and impossible not to swept up in his excitement for both.

A wonderful afternoon and highly recommended.

Perfect wine tasting

We arrived late to the winery (road construction) so we missed the tour of the grapevines. The owner Rafael and his staff were extremely gracious and seated us poolside with a beautiful spread of homemade food while we began our tasting. 5 impeccably crafted wines that we all enjoyed. A quick rest breathing the fresh air of the Douro river and the beautiful scenery and we were off! Do not miss this experience!
Don’t leave without trying the homemade chocolate mousse!

About Winery and Wines

In the mid-1950s, António Ribeiro and his wife Maria do Céu began their agricultural journey with the acquisition of Quinta de S. Tiago, featuring an 18th-century manor house, in Vila Marim, and Quinta da Portela in Barqueiros, both located in the municipality of Mesão Frio near the first Pombaline landmark of the Douro Demarcated Region. By 1980, their daughter Teresinha Ribeiro, along with her husband Eduardo Miranda, began the process of converting the vineyards. Initially, the family's strategy was to sell their production to exporters and reserve small quantities for local consumption.

Their sons — Roberto, Ricardo, Rafael, and Rudolfo — later became involved, each completing academic training primarily focused on management and viticulture, gradually shaping the family’s continued dedication to the land and its wines.

Mãos e Irmãos produces wines that reflect the rich heritage and unique terroir of the Douro region. Their approach combines traditional winemaking methods with modern viticulture techniques, aiming to craft high-quality wines that capture the essence of the land. The family’s vineyards, located in the prestigious Douro Demarcated Region, benefit from prime positioning near the region’s historical Pombaline landmark. Each wine produced by Mãos e Irmãos showcases the dedication of the Ribeiro family, with a strong focus on authenticity and the natural expression of the Douro’s indigenous grape varieties.
