About Winery and Wines

Masseria Faraona was born in 2015, but the art of wine production and the dedication to quality agriculture have a more ancient history. The company is owned by the Casillo family, which has always been involved in the agri-food sector and is now a world leader in the milling of hard and soft wheat. It is the third generation of millers to lead this impressive reality in Corrado since the 50s. The first farm of the family was founded by Vincenzo Casillo in the '70s and has slowly and steadily grown thanks to hard work and investments, which have affected most of the crops of the Murgia territory. Bound by the love for their land and for agriculture, the Casillo brothers have always had the objective of increasing the notoriety of Alta Murgia thanks to the cultivations that best exalt the territory.

The origin of the term Murgia derives from Latin murex, which means rock and perfectly recalls the calcareous morphology of the territory, scattered with dolines, ravines, swallow holes and caves. The soil of this area of Apulia is rich in minerals and has a calcareous structure which gives minerality and lightness to wines. Our vineyards are located in the Alta Murgia National Park and they necessarily respect all the restrictions in order to safeguard the natural ecosystem. The stony soils are located at an altitude between 450 and 500 meters above sea level with a good exposure to sunlight and evident daily temperature changes; the vineyards are located at the foot of Castel del Monte. Order and constant control are the cornerstones of Masseria Faraona's daily activity; a work which allows the vineyards to be managed in a natural way, with a low environmental impact and in respect of the balance of the territory where they have their roots.
