About Winery and Wines
Founded in 1890 by Remigio Medici, Medici Ermete is a historic winery with roots along the Via Emilia, a vital commercial road in Reggio Emilia. Remigio, who owned three successful taverns, established the winery to capitalize on the family vineyards located between the Via Emilia and the foothills of the Enza Valley. His son, Ermete, expanded the business, cementing the winery's reputation, and passed the legacy to his sons, Valter and Giorgio, who propelled the brand onto the global stage. The 1970s saw a "Lambrusco boom" in the United States, making it one of the first Italian wines to achieve international acclaim. However, the 1980s brought challenges with an influx of low-quality, mass-produced Lambrusco that tarnished the wine’s reputation. In 1988, the fourth generation—Alberto, Pierluigi, and later Alessandra—joined the company and spearheaded a revolution in Lambrusco production. They replanted the vineyards, reducing yields by 35% to focus on quality, a move that led to the creation of the "Concerto" in 1993, a CRU of Lambrusco Salamino. Today, Medici Ermete stands as a beacon of excellence, blending tradition with innovation, and offering visitors a chance to explore the rich history and evolving future of Lambrusco in the heart of Emilia-Romagna.
Medici Ermete’s commitment to quality and tradition is evident in their 80 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, located in the most prestigious wine-growing areas of Emilia-Romagna. Now managed by the fifth generation, represented by Alessandro Medici, the winery has perfected the art of Lambrusco production, creating wines that truly express the character of their terroir. The family's revolutionary approach includes a rigorous selection of grapes, with yields 30-40% lower than DOC regulations, ensuring exceptional quality in every bottle. The vinification process, carried out in state-of-the-art facilities, respects both nature and the environment, resulting in wines that have garnered international acclaim and prestigious awards.
Among their standout offerings is the Concerto, a CRU of Lambrusco Salamino, known for its rich flavor and fine bubbles, embodying the perfect balance between tradition and modern winemaking techniques. Medici Ermete’s portfolio also includes a range of Lambrusco wines, from the dry and refreshing to the more full-bodied and complex, each crafted with the same dedication to quality. These wines, once overlooked, have now entered the temple of excellence, proving that Lambrusco can be a sophisticated and elegant expression of Italian winemaking. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious traveler, Medici Ermete's wines offer a true taste of the passion and innovation that define this historic winery.
