Pileum Winery is nestled in the picturesque hills of Piglio, a region framed by the base of Mount Scalambra on one side and the Tyrrhenian Sea on the other, located in the province of Frosinone in Ciociaria. This area is renowned for its centuries-old tradition of producing Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, a wine deeply tied to the region’s history. Established in 2002 by a group of close friends and families with strong connections to this land, Pileum Winery has quickly excelled by combining modern technology and advanced winemaking techniques with a deep respect for the ancient traditions of the area.

With 15 hectares of vineyards situated at altitudes ranging from 300 to 500 meters, Pileum Winery cultivates vines that are between one and fifty years old. The winery focuses on producing Cesanese di Affile, yielding 4 to 6 tons per hectare, and Passerina del Frusinate, yielding 6 to 8 tons per hectare. These vineyards are composed of small plots scattered around Piglio, an area historically well-suited to viticulture due to its ideal exposure and unique terroir.

At Pileum, every grape is hand-selected and carefully harvested at the peak of ripeness, ensuring the highest quality production. The winery’s philosophy is rooted in a simple yet rigorous approach: respect the land, its traditions, and its history. By cultivating autochthonous grape varieties, Pileum creates wines that are deeply expressive of their varietal character, influenced by the area’s seasonal changes and distinctive terroir. Through a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, Pileum Winery produces wines that truly reflect the essence of this remarkable region.

Pileum Winery primarily focuses on red wine production, with 70% of its portfolio dedicated to reds. All of their red wines are Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, made exclusively from the Cesanese di Affile grape variety. One of their standout wines is Bolla di Urbano, a Cesanese del Piglio Superiore Riserva DOCG, which has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards. This wine is crafted from grapes harvested from the winery’s oldest vineyards, which are 55 to 60 years old, with a low yield of less than 4 tons per hectare. The wine is aged for two years in large wooden barrels and six months in the bottle before being released. In addition to this, Pileum Winery produces other labels of Cesanese del Piglio and a selection of white wines.
