SDAD COOP AGRICOLA VIRGEN DE LA OLIVA
About the Winery
Sociedad Cooperativa Virgen de la Oliva is a genuine working wine and olive oil cooperative located in Mollina, in the heart of inland Málaga. With roots dating back to 1977, it brings together local agricultural tradition, certified organic production and the everyday work of the people who cultivate, produce and bottle here.
This is not a winery created as a tourist attraction. Wine, olives and olive oil are part of the real daily life of the cooperative. Behind every bottle lies a close connection between the land, local growers, traditional knowledge and modern quality standards.
The experience begins in a remarkable organic production field, cultivated without chemicals, where visitors discover the origin of the grapes and agricultural products before entering the cooperative. One of its most important figures is Paco Campaña, a pioneer of organic farming in the region. His vineyard provides the Pedro Ximénez grapes used exclusively to produce Gadea PX Ecológico.
Inside the cooperative, visitors can discover the different stages behind local wine and olive oil production. The facilities include a modern bottling area, an olive oil mill, traditional cement wine tanks and tasting spaces. Depending on the production schedule, members of the cooperative may personally explain the work carried out in these areas.
One of the most distinctive moments is the opportunity to taste wine directly from a cement tank, connecting the finished wines with the living production process behind them.
The cooperative offers an honest and deeply local vision of Málaga’s wine culture: certified organic farming, award-winning wines, olive oil, traditional olives and the voices of the people who make them. It is an ideal destination for travellers seeking authenticity, regional gastronomy and a genuine connection with the agricultural heritage of Andalucía.
About the Wines
The wines of Sociedad Cooperativa Virgen de la Oliva express the diversity of inland Málaga through native varieties, organic vineyards, careful oak ageing and a remarkable tradition of naturally sweet wines.
Gadea PX Ecológico is produced exclusively from organically grown Pedro Ximénez grapes from the vineyard visited during the experience. The field belongs to Paco Campaña, a pioneer of organic agriculture in the region. This wine received a Silver Medal at the Real Casino de Madrid Wine Competition in 2023, creating a direct story between the land visitors walk through and the wine they later taste.
Gadea Tinto Roble is a 100% Syrah aged for approximately six months in French oak. It offers an intense cherry-red colour with violet tones and aromas of vanilla, fresh cherries, raspberries and blackberries. On the palate, it is fleshy and fruit-driven, with balanced acidity and soft, velvety tannins. Gentle toasted and vanilla notes return in the finish, making it an excellent partner for Iberian pork, red meat and rich savoury dishes.
Apiane Espumoso is made from Moscatel Morisco, an aromatic variety that gives the sparkling wine a distinctive local identity and a lively, celebratory character.
Carpe Diem Dulce Natural is a naturally sweet Moscatel wine. It received a Gold Medal in Lyon in 2023 and a Silver Medal at the Real Casino de Madrid Wine Competition in the same year. It represents the floral, aromatic and generous side of Málaga’s historic sweet-wine tradition.
Carpe Diem Trasañejo is the most historic and contemplative wine in the selection. Made from Pedro Ximénez, it contains 5% of a mother wine originating from the historic Bodegas Scholtz and preserved for more than 200 years. Its long list of national and international distinctions includes medals from Lyon, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Frankfurt, Vinoble, Zarcillo and numerous other renowned competitions.
Together, these wines take visitors from fresh organic Pedro Ximénez and oak-aged Syrah to sparkling Moscatel and deeply concentrated sweet wines. The tasting is designed not only to present different styles, but to reveal the history, varieties, aromas and people behind every glass.
