Silvio Carta S.R.L.
About the Winery
Silvio Carta was founded in the early 1950s in Baratili San Pietro, when Silvio Carta began dedicating himself to one of the most traditional local wine productions: Vernaccia di Oristano. This amber-gold wine, noble and generous in character, immediately charms the palate with its distinctive personality.
Thanks to skilled vinification, long aging in barrels, and the careful dedication of Maison Silvio Carta, Vernaccia di Oristano became one of the great symbols of Sardinian winemaking.
More than sixty years later, Vernaccia remains a family matter. Today, Silvio Carta and his son Elio, who has led the company since 1972, continue to produce Vernaccia di Oristano DOC with the same passion and respect for tradition.
Over time, the company has also embraced innovation, expanding its production to include Mirto Riserva, London Dry Gin, Vermouth, and other traditional spirits. Distributed around the world, these products express the aromas and identity of Sardinia, from juniper and myrtle to Mediterranean citrus fruits.
Today, Silvio Carta is a name that represents both heritage and creativity, offering a refined expression of an ancient and generous land.
About the Wines
Sa Crannatza de Silviu Cata – Vernaccia Valle del Tirso IGT
When speaking about Vernaccia, it is impossible not to mention Silvio Carta. Since the early 1950s, this winery has been dedicated to enhancing and preserving this wine, considered the oldest in this area of Sardinia and known for its mysterious origins and traditional reputation for curative properties. The history of Vernaccia is deeply intertwined with the history of the vine and viticulture itself, and its presence on the island is believed to date back to the earliest human settlements. Its name may derive from the Latin Vernum, meaning spring and rebirth, or Vernacula, meaning local. A complex, almost alchemical wine, it fascinates and excites those who taste it, offering a perfect expression of this unique corner of Sardinia.
Vernaccia di Oristano DOC Riserva 2004 – Dessert Wine
A complex and fascinating wine, almost alchemical in character. It is a perfect expression of this part of the island.
Vernaccia di Oristano DOC Riserva 2006 – Dessert Wine
Fresh, persuasive, and full of character, this Vernaccia is the perfect companion for gastronomic experimentation, thanks to its original balance of sweet notes and marked sapidity. A wine of remarkable elegance.
Vernaccia di Oristano DOC Riserva 1968
An absolute, unique, and unrepeatable Vernaccia. The year 1968 marked Silvio Carta’s last vinification in the historic headquarters on Via Dante in Baratili San Pietro. It was also the year of the last harvest carried out in three different stages: the first for the ripest and healthiest grapes, the second 10 to 15 days later for the sweetest bunches, and the third for grapes destined for the production of San Martino wine, the lightest and most ready to drink. This was the traditional way of harvesting Vernaccia grapes until then. It was 1968.
Red Wines
PO TUI – Monica di Sardegna DOC
Monica is a grape variety with a woman’s name and a DOC that covers almost all of Sardinia, from the Cagliari area to the vineyards around Sassari. This native variety, now found only in Sardinia, is said to have been brought to the island by the Spaniards. A true piece of history in the glass.
PO TUI – Cagnulari Isola dei Nuraghi IGT
Cagnulari, also known as Cagnulari Nero, Cagnone, or Cagliari, is a grape variety that has found its ideal home in Sardinia.
Serenata – Cannonau di Sardegna DOC
Cannonau is the vermilion blood that flows through the veins of Sardinia. It is the island’s red wine par excellence and one of its most iconic symbols in the world.
Kusidura – Isola dei Nuraghi IGT
Kusidura is far more than just a wine: it is a visionary project that bridges tradition and innovation. Its name, meaning “stitching” in Sardinian, evokes the art of creating harmony between two seemingly distant worlds: Vernaccia, an emblem of Sardinian winemaking with its unique oxidative notes, and the island’s most representative native red varieties. This extraordinary blend is the result of years of research carried out in collaboration with the University of Cagliari, highlighting not only the distinctive aromatic traits of these grapes, but also their cultural and historical value. Kusidura offers a new way to tell the story of Sardinia through the glass, uniting past and future in every sip.
