TENUTA BASTONACA

Winery in Val di Noto

About the Winery

Tenuta Bastonaca takes its name from the Bastonaca district, located in the heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria region, renowned for its Frappato and Nero d’Avola wines. Our winery is a young and modern establishment with deep roots in tradition, housed in an 18th-century palmento—a historic stone building where grapes were once crushed and fermented. The ancient stone vats still seem to carry the aromas of freshly pressed grapes and fermenting must. Surrounding this historic site are 15 hectares of vineyards, where bush-trained vines echo a glorious past while looking confidently toward a promising future. The estate is also home to a thousand ancient olive trees of the rare Carolea variety, their green-silver foliage enhancing the vibrant colors of the landscape. We cultivate Frappato and Nero d’Avola with love, alongside Grenache and Tannat, blending tradition and innovation guided by passion and curiosity. Our vineyards, which are in the process of organic conversion, are hand-tended with a commitment to natural agriculture. We do not irrigate, ensuring that each grape concentrates the warmth of the earth and the brilliant Sicilian sun—elements that make our wines, and our region, truly unique. Recently, we fulfilled a dream by acquiring a hectare of 50-year-old Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio vines in Castiglione di Sicilia, near Solicchiata, where the majestic Mount Etna offers breathtaking beauty and unforgettable emotions. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in our use of only natural and recyclable materials. We work closely with the esteemed agronomist and oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who shares our dedication to excellence and respect for nature.

About the Wines

At Tenuta Bastonaca, we produce seven distinctive wines that embody the essence of Sicily's diverse terroir. Our Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG is the crown jewel, representing the only DOCG wine of Sicily, blending Frappato and Nero d’Avola to create a wine of elegance and complexity. Our Nero d'Avola and Frappato DOC Vittoria are expressions of the region’s most famous indigenous grapes, offering wines that are rich in character and deeply rooted in tradition. The Grillo DOC showcases the unique qualities of this native white grape, delivering fresh and aromatic flavors.

In addition to these, we produce Sud IGT Terre Siciliane, a wine that captures the essence of our southern vineyards, as well as Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco, wines that hail from our recently acquired vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna, where the volcanic soil imparts a distinctive minerality and depth. These Etna wines are a tribute to the powerful and dynamic nature of Sicily's iconic volcano. Beyond wine, we also produce extra virgin olive oil from our rare Carolea olive trees, known for their superior quality and rich, complex flavor. Each bottle of wine and olive oil from Tenuta Bastonaca reflects our commitment to quality, sustainability, and the extraordinary land that we are proud to call home.

Nice experience
We were welcomed by the owner of the winery and had a small tour of the vineyard where she explained how they harvest grapes and olives as Tenuta Bastonaca also do olive oil. We then had a lovely meal starting off with appetizers, ravioli, meat and dessert. All courses paired with wine from the Tenuta. The meals were very abundant and flavourful. All in all it was a very nice experience and we rate it a 10/10!

Fun class and delicious food and wine!
We did the Arancini cooking class with Silvana. She was such a welcoming and amazing instructor, we had so much fun. It was a class for just the 3 of us, and she made it so personal! We made 2 types of arancini, and while they were cooking, we were treated to a feast of cheeses, meats, olives, crostini, etc, along with 3 wines from the winery, then came our arancini. Everything was so delicious! We also took a little tour of the vines and winery with Giovanni, he was great! Wonderful way to spend the afternoon! Highly recommended!

Great lunch, tour was too short.
The lunch and wine tasting was a 5. The “tour” was only about 10 minutes long. We did not go out into the vineyard and given further information about the vines, growing season etc. We did not see the entire production area, just some stainless steel tanks and a few oak barrels. We are going to order some wine to be shipped as soon as the weather cools down here and in Arizona.

Thank you for your appreciation. Normally our tour is longer, but today the weather was very hot (around 40 degrees) and for your safety we preferred have a short walking in the vineyard. I hope in the future you will come to visit us again and you will have a long tour

A serene, gratifying, very pleasant day. Delicacies for the palate and excellent wine.
The goal of spending a serene and pleasant day was fully achieved. Upon arriving at the Estate, as a couple, we were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Silvana, who beautifully told the story of Bastonaca, conveying the culture and ideals that positively drive the Company forward every day. The flavor of the local foods, accompanied by the tasting of white and red wines, made us feel truly at ease. The visit to the vineyards and olive groves, as well as the cellars, positively impressed us with the order, cleanliness, and attention to detail. I will say no more, so as not to spoil the surprise for those who wish to visit the Bastonaca Estate. PIETRO & DANIELA.

Excellent
Excellent experience, Mr. Giovanni is truly a delightful person, very knowledgeable and courteous. A tasting that is well worth the price, with excellently crafted wines, and delicious food. The Frappato was top-notch, with a perfect pairing with the various dishes brought out, from the scaccia, to the Ragusano DOP, to the garlic in oil (try it)

5/5 Experience
Really suggestive place and Silvana was the extra touch that made the experience fantastic.
She showed us the estate and explained its history and then concluded with the tasting of 4 wines one better than the other.
A perfect alternative to spend quality time with friends and family (wine lovers of course)
