TENUTA BASTONACA
About the Winery
Tenuta Bastonaca takes its name from the Bastonaca district, located in the heart of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria region, renowned for its Frappato and Nero d’Avola wines. Our winery is a young and modern establishment with deep roots in tradition, housed in an 18th-century palmento—a historic stone building where grapes were once crushed and fermented. The ancient stone vats still seem to carry the aromas of freshly pressed grapes and fermenting must. Surrounding this historic site are 15 hectares of vineyards, where bush-trained vines echo a glorious past while looking confidently toward a promising future. The estate is also home to a thousand ancient olive trees of the rare Carolea variety, their green-silver foliage enhancing the vibrant colors of the landscape. We cultivate Frappato and Nero d’Avola with love, alongside Grenache and Tannat, blending tradition and innovation guided by passion and curiosity. Our vineyards, which are in the process of organic conversion, are hand-tended with a commitment to natural agriculture. We do not irrigate, ensuring that each grape concentrates the warmth of the earth and the brilliant Sicilian sun—elements that make our wines, and our region, truly unique. Recently, we fulfilled a dream by acquiring a hectare of 50-year-old Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio vines in Castiglione di Sicilia, near Solicchiata, where the majestic Mount Etna offers breathtaking beauty and unforgettable emotions. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in our use of only natural and recyclable materials. We work closely with the esteemed agronomist and oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who shares our dedication to excellence and respect for nature.
About the Wines
At Tenuta Bastonaca, we produce seven distinctive wines that embody the essence of Sicily's diverse terroir. Our Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG is the crown jewel, representing the only DOCG wine of Sicily, blending Frappato and Nero d’Avola to create a wine of elegance and complexity. Our Nero d'Avola and Frappato DOC Vittoria are expressions of the region’s most famous indigenous grapes, offering wines that are rich in character and deeply rooted in tradition. The Grillo DOC showcases the unique qualities of this native white grape, delivering fresh and aromatic flavors.
In addition to these, we produce Sud IGT Terre Siciliane, a wine that captures the essence of our southern vineyards, as well as Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco, wines that hail from our recently acquired vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna, where the volcanic soil imparts a distinctive minerality and depth. These Etna wines are a tribute to the powerful and dynamic nature of Sicily's iconic volcano. Beyond wine, we also produce extra virgin olive oil from our rare Carolea olive trees, known for their superior quality and rich, complex flavor. Each bottle of wine and olive oil from Tenuta Bastonaca reflects our commitment to quality, sustainability, and the extraordinary land that we are proud to call home.
