Do not hesitate; book the Tenuta Bichi...

5/27/14
Do not hesitate; book the Tenuta Bichi Borghese. It is, simply put, a magical place that had everything for which one goes to Tuscany. The estate is an operating winery and farm. The grounds, vineyards, gardens, topiary and surrounding fields are breathtakingly, pinch-yourself beautiful. The estate is ancient and stately, reeking of its nobility in times’ past, yet at the same time comfortable and homey. My wife and I stayed for four days in the “cocchiere”, where travelers who are familiar with Italy’s often cramped accommodations and quirky bathroom arrangements will be happily surprised by its full bathrooms and shower/baths. The kitchen, though not huge by American standards, was more than sufficient for us to cook (not that we did so a lot). A perfect balance of modernity and old world hominess , and we could have had another couple in the house and still have had plenty of room. You’ll feel like you’re a guest at a good friend’s home rather than a hotel guest. Within easy reach of Volterre and Siena, the estate is also near many wonderful local restaurants, which Paola, who runs the place with laughter, grace and warmth, and speaks better than average English, will be happy to help you get a reservation. She and her staff will take joy, also, in finding every possible way to make your stay perfect. Oh, and the wine they make? Drink it, buy it; it’s amazingly good.

We have stayed at this glorious part...

8/24/13
We have stayed at this glorious part of Italian perfection several times for a month each time. It's the closest thing to Heaven we know of. It is a glorious marriage of
the really old and comfortable new. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and so
inviting. The views from the kitchen over the vast farmland are studded with vineyards
and olive trees and laced with the sounds of contented sheep and are most soothing.
You will meet Gigliola, the lovely grande dame matriarch whose lineage is traced back to Uncle Bonico circa 900; her sons Niccolo. and Vittorio and his wife Paola who manages the estate with charm and devoted efficiency.
