Ottima esperienza, vini veramente buoni

3/1/24

About Winery and Wines

Presentation of the Borri estate's winery, property of Andrea Pradelli

Graziella Borri's family has been producing wine from memory for at least five generations.

At the moment Andrea is the one running the company full time, an agronomist that rather than doing consultant work, prefers now to prune vines and to work in the cellar.

In 2008 the historic Vineyards were renovated because of the death and fallacies brought by some of the worst of the vines’ diseases.

The currently producing Vineyards are four hectares operatively around 5 hectares.

To size for vigneron.

All of the vineyards are located in the Travo area (PC) in the midst of the Trebbia river’s valley, between 400 and 700 m above sea level, with a South-Southwest exposition on a  marl calcareous terrain ever since favoured  regarding vine cultivation: the plots of land have indeed being replanted where the cultivation of vines historically existed, also repeating the originally present varieties every one of them exclusively of local tradition.

The process in the vineyards is done manually, the lend is mechanically worked, no use of fertilizer or herbicides is made.

The phytosanitary treatments made in the summer or only five-six, thanks to the favorable pedoclimatic conditions and due to the isolation of the vineyards that averts damage from the common fungine diseases, using copper and sulfur with the (tecnica della lotta guidata ed integrata) the BIO production certification is consciously avoided to do the local presence of the Flavescence dorée  whose fighting involves insecticides use against the American Grapevine Leaf Hopper (Scophoideus titanus).

The grapes’ harvest is only done by hand and they are attentively selected.

The vinification is done with traditional methods refined with new ones: the fermentation is spontaneous because of the indigenous yeasts who are present in grapes from non-conditioned  environment and not with selected yeasts.

There’s a minimum use of sulfur dioxide, usually in the pressing to direct fermentation, in some of the wines the usage is next to nothing.

Around 20.000 bottles are produced with 9 labels of white wine every one of them from Ortrugo, Sauvignon in blend or purity and three types of red wine from Barbera, Croatina and Ervi grapes.

All of the productive process in its entirety from the vineyards cultivation to the transformation and the sale of the wine bottles is made by Andrea who identifies himself as an Indipendent Winemaker.
