About Winery and Wines

The cantina of Castelnuovo Tancredi has a long history going back to the early 1900's before this area was known for its wine production. We started bottling and labeling our wines in the early 80s to get away from the habit of selling wine by the liter, or in dameggiane. Today, the cantina is managed and owned by Guido Venturini Del Greco, part of the third generation of descendants to live and maintain this beautiful property, which was purchased by his great grandfather in 1897, a well-known industrialist from Torino who decided to invest in this area, bying both the castle and all of its surrounding properties. Our planted vineyard is 4 hectares , of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah. The few wines remaining of Colorino, which was very popular in the 80's and 90's to add color to the sangiovese are simply used for blending today. The current owner, Guido Venturini Del Greco, and his wife, Lee, own and manage the property. Lee is responsible for the wine productiion, sales and also tastings , being an accredited sommelier AIS and also Master Class AIS; and shares her love with the clients who come by.

Assedio Doc Orcia, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot ( 80% to 20%) Ammiraglio Doc Orcia, 100% sangiovese from our best vines Ambasciatore , Super Tuscan IGT, a blend that varies according to the year's best expression. Our 2015 is a 50-50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. 2008 was a blend in equal parts of cabernet sauvignon, syrah and merlot.
