Tenuta Masselina

Winery in Romagna

About the Winery

Tenuta Masselina is nestled in the scenic hills of Castelbolognese, Emilia Romagna, just 50 km southeast of Bologna, on the ridge between Imola and Faenza. While Emilia and Romagna may be geographically united, their winemaking identities are distinct, and Tenuta Masselina lies at the crossroads of these two rich traditions. Located in the Serra subzone, the most westerly area of the Romagna Sangiovese D.O.C., our estate stands as a bridge between Emilia’s vibrant whites and frizzante wines and Romagna’s renowned red wines, particularly Sangiovese.

Spanning 22 hectares, of which 16 are dedicated to organic vineyards and 6 to protected woodland, Tenuta Masselina is deeply rooted in the unique soils of Romagna. These lands, a blend of ancient red earth and the calcareous soils of the lower Apennines, offer an ideal environment for growing a mix of indigenous and international grape varieties. Here, tradition meets innovation, with solar geothermal energy powering the estate’s winemaking operations and climate-controlled maturation cellars, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and nature. Every bottle of Tenuta Masselina wine embodies the history, landscape, and character of Emilia Romagna, inviting visitors to experience the deep connection between our land and its wines.

About the Wines

At Tenuta Masselina, our vineyards thrive in the unique terroir of Romagna, producing wines that capture the essence of the region. We specialize in cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Albana, and Pignoletto, while also nurturing international cultivars like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, all organically farmed. Our Romagna Sangiovese D.O.C. is a standout, delivering the classic structure and depth associated with this historic grape, while our white wines such as Albana and Pignoletto offer crisp, fresh expressions with the character of the local terroir.

From our vineyards, we produce approximately 55,000 bottles annually, all crafted with care using sustainable practices. We rely on solar geothermal energy to power our winemaking operations and maintain the climate in our maturation cellars, underscoring our commitment to quality and environmental stewardship.

A Discovery
Tenuta Massellina was a discovery. Not very far from where I live, this recently renovated estate with the creation of places that are nothing short of stunning (the stable with the museum, the cave containing the barrels) left us truly pleasantly surprised!
The welcome from the young woman who greeted and served us was perfect!
The wines were good!

Authentic experience, despite the rain.
Tenuta Masselina is a fascinating place, nestled in the Romagna hills, where wine, nature, and sustainability meet.
The guided tour with Manuela was the highlight: knowledgeable, passionate, and able to describe the territory with expertise and warmth.
Despite the heavy rain that day, the experience was engaging and well-organized.
The wines tasted were excellent, especially the Sangiovese.
A place that is truly worth a visit… maybe with sunshine!
