About Winery and Wines

Tenuta San Giaime, perched 1,000 meters above sea level in Sicily’s Madonie mountains, is a unique winery that combines the richness of its natural environment with sustainable practices. The estate is committed to organic farming, producing "heroic" wines due to the remote and uncontaminated nature of the area. Founded by Alessio and his family in 2006, the vineyard was revitalized with a focus on Syrah, leading to their first organic Syrah vintage in 2012. Tenuta San Giaime is also deeply involved in the Slow Food movement and promotes wine tourism through its participation in Movimento Turismo del Vino.

The estate's mountainous location, with volcanic soils and high altitudes, contributes to the wine's distinct qualities, offering rich flavors and aromas enhanced by the area’s sunlight and air. The commitment to preserving natural landscapes and traditional farming techniques reflects the family’s dedication to respecting the land and continuing the agricultural heritage passed down through generations.

Alessio, born in 1984 and raised in Milan, spent summers on the family estate in Gangi, where his grandfather Gaetano cultivated Syrah. Inspired by this tradition, Alessio, alongside his father and uncle, decided to embrace the family roots and focus on winemaking. Their first 1,000 bottles of Syrah marked the beginning of Tenuta San Giaime’s journey, which now produces exceptional, organic wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Sicilian mountains.

Tenuta San Giaime operates under a certified organic regime, with a deep respect for nature’s cycles and the environment. The estate spans 7 hectares of vineyards, cultivating Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Grillo, alongside new plantings of Carricante, Nerello Mascalese, and Perricone. Situated in the Madonie mountains of Sicily, the vineyard's unique terroir, influenced by the sea and sun, results in wines with distinct flavors and aromas. The winery also manages 26 hectares of land, including olive groves, ancient Sicilian grains, and greenhouse vegetables.

Production methods minimize human intervention, with spontaneous fermentations, no filtering, and no clarification, ensuring that the wines reflect the true essence of the land. The emphasis is on creating wines that celebrate varietal diversity and the characteristics of the Madonie region, blending international grape varieties with Sicilian natives to create a harmonious balance. By following organic practices, Tenuta San Giaime produces wines that respect the environment, safeguard the climate, and promote health, while highlighting the unique attributes of its terroir.
