Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €30.00
Among the lush hills covered of Salaparuta with a green blanket, given by the fabulous vineyard plantings that cover almost the entire territory, the Cantina Giacco was born. It was born not by chance, and with the desire to follow the ancient tradition started by the citizens of Salaparuta way back in 1824, producing an excellent wine. Despite the rich production of fine grapes, trade was not easy, until in 1977, capable of making high quality grapes into wine and also taking care of their marketing. It was in 1977 that the first winemaking took place, obtained in the Contrada Giacco, then owned by Stillone Nunzio, and from which the winery takes its name. Among the lush hills covered with a green blanket, given by the fabulous vineyard plantings that cover almost the entire territory, the Giacco Winery was born. It was born not by chance, and with the desire to follow the ancient tradition started by the citizens of Salaparuta way back in 1824, producing an excellent wine. And in the early 1980s the Cantina Giacco moved and settled permanently in the old center of Salaparuta, destroyed by the 1968 earthquake, and more precisely in Contrada Cappuccini, where Villa Amalia once stood. Inside the cellar there remain traces of the Villa, in particular a stone sculpture. The legend... Around Villa Amalia the heroic deeds of a warrior in love with the beauty of the Belice Valley area were told. The Warrior spends his life in the small countryside of Belicino, then, when old age looms, he recognizes that the only way to remain eternal is to be depicted in a stone, so as to monitor the beauty of the area. His image is carved on a stone and is still present inside the cellar today. Thanks to his perfect preservation the Warrior, whose name is Neklite, still lives. Over time, Cantina Giacco adapts to the various market needs to satisfy the demands of the final consumer, trying to constantly improve itself, equipping itself with cutting-edge equipment and systems. After a phase of processing bulk products, in the early 1990s the bottling of own-produced wines also began: Vigna del Principe, since it was the first grape from the Vigna del Principe district to be destined for the bottle; Villa Amalia, in memory of the ancient villa where the cellar stands today; Neklite, the latest label in honor of our warrior. Currently in the winery they deliver grapes whose plants fall in the municipalities of Salaparuta, Poggioreale, Gibellina Authentic Sicilian Sensation

Tenuta San Giaime is also deeply involved in the Slow Food movement and promotes wine tourism through its participation in Movimento Turismo del Vino. The estate's mountainous location, with volcanic soils and high altitudes, contributes to the wine's distinct qualities, offering rich flavors and aromas enhanced by the area’s sunlight and air. The commitment to preserving natural landscapes and traditional farming techniques reflects the family’s dedication to respecting the land and continuing the agricultural heritage passed down through generations. Alessio, born in 1984 and raised in Milan, spent summers on the family estate in Gangi, where his grandfather Gaetano cultivated Syrah. Inspired by this tradition, Alessio, alongside his father and uncle, decided to embrace the family roots and focus on winemaking. Azienda Agricola Cossentino
(Winery in Palermo)

In the 1960s, grandfather Gaspare Di Trapani, who inspired our Gadì – sparkling wine of Catarratto – grew grapes in the family estate in the Alcamo Doc area, precisely in Partinico, in the province of Palermo. Later, in the 1980s, the company project with my father Antonino Cossentino was born. With his eyes always looking forward, my father dedicated his life to improve the family estate, full of vineyards, peach and cherry orchards at that time. The choice to convert the land to the production of wine grapes was natural, spontaneous. Like the choice to plant French vine varieties, popular at that time, such as Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay, alongside Catarratto, the native vine that has always had a special place in our estate, as in our heart. Even before the Cossentino brand was born, my father’s thoughts turned to the agricultural part, to make the right choices for the land and the environment. In fact, thanks to my father’s foresight, since the mid-1990s we have been able to qualify for the certification of organic viticulture. We have been among the first in Sicily to make this sustainable choice, and we are proud of it.
