Restoran vinarije Malča
About the Winery
Malca Winery was founded in 1903 as a cooperative of local grape producers who even then recognized the need to unite and build a winery where the best grapes from the Nis vineyards would be processed. Today, Malca Winery is writing the brightest pages of its history and presenting its wines to the wine audience, which are worthy of being on any table in the world, alongside the world’s best wines. Through hard work both in the vineyards located at the foot of the Svrljiske mountains and in the winery itself, we have developed the Anonymous wine line, which has been winning over the wine audience more and more every day.
About the Wines
Malča produces a broad range of wines – white, red, rosé, and special styles – using both autochthonous (indigenous) grape varieties and international ones. They also employ different aging vessels and methods, such as oak barriques and amphorae.
Malča is one of the few wineries in the region that revives the ancient method of amphora winemaking, where wines mature in clay vessels buried underground. This process gives them extraordinary complexity, authenticity, and aging potential.
Carica Jelena – A white wine made with red-wine techniques, fermented and aged in amphorae. It develops aromas of honey, beeswax, candied fruits, and compote, with gentle tannins that allow for pairing with stronger dishes and a long bottle life.
Konstantin Veliki – A red amphora wine, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Powerful and structured, with rich tannins and long aging potential (10–15 years). It represents the peak of our amphora philosophy.
One of the most exciting developments at Malča is the revival of Crna Tamjanika under the Anonymous label. With the amphora project and the new Anonymous line, Malča is reintroducing this autochthonous grape and bringing it into modern vinification.
In 2022, the first public amphora opening also revealed Crna Tamjanika wines: blanc de noir (white style), rosé, and red, within the Anonymous line. This reintroduction has been framed as restoring Crna Tamjanika’s role in regional wine heritage.
Some notes on the three expressions of Crna Tamjanika at Malča:
White / Blanc de Noir Crna Tamjanika – Made in a white-wine style from Crna Tamjanika grapes. One listing describes it as having a golden yellow color, notes of rose, white meadow flowers, ratluk, and cherry. Balanced acidity, slightly creamy finish.
Rosé Crna Tamjanika – Produced in a light, fresh, dry style from Crna Tamjanika. It is featured in their wine tasting program.
Red Crna Tamjanika – A red version, noted for a complex aroma combining floral and wood notes. A listing describes Malča’s red Crna Tamjanika as “exquisitely lively and compact, complex scent merging floral notes with subtle oak.”
The Rest of the House: Sauvignon, Grašac, Frankovka, Merlot & More
While amphora wines and Crna Tamjanika evoke heritage and innovation, Malča’s classic line remains strong.
Sauvignon Blanc (Anonymous Sauvignon 2021) – A dry white wine with intensely characteristic Sauvignon aroma, fruity, full-bodied, with layers that leave an impression. It won a gold medal at the Open Balkan Fair.
Grašac / Italian Riesling – Malča uses the name “Grašac” (for Italian Riesling). The 2019 varietal placed 4th in a Balkan Open competition (93 points). Notes: fresh, lively, with aromas of candied fruit, and a somewhat sweet finish. Grapes come from vineyards at altitudes over 500 m.
Frankovka Barrique – A dry red, with grapes on sunny exposures lending purplish-blue color. Aroma profile includes blueberry, currant, cherry; the tannic structure allows aging. Oak barrel aging adds vanilla and caramel. Pairs with rich foods, red meat, smoked cheeses, and cigars.
Merlot (Anonymous Merlot 2018) – From selected Merlot clusters, fermented over a month without inoculated yeasts (native yeasts). Aged 12 months in oak, bottled without filtration (so may contain fine lees). Reflects the terroir of Lipnica, near Svrljiške hills.
Other whites – Beyond Sauvignon and Grašac, Malča produces Smederevka (classic dry), Smederevka Barrique (experimental style).
