About Winery and Wines
Villa Vitas began its journey in early 20th century Trieste as a wine trading company in the local Free Port. Romano Vitas's love for viticulture led him to acquire the Strassoldo estate in 1937, marking the beginning of the family's deep connection to winemaking. His dedication to restoring and improving the estate has been passed down through the generations, with his son, grandson, and great-grandson continuing to enhance the legacy of the family business.
Today, the Vitas family, now in its fourth generation, oversees every aspect of the winemaking process—from production to marketing. The estate produces exceptional Friulian wines, combining ancient traditions with modern technology in the pursuit of excellence. The family’s commitment to quality has been passed down through the years, ensuring that each wine reflects the heritage and innovation of Villa Vitas.
Villa Vitas, owned by the Vitas family since 1937, is located in Strassoldo, a region renowned for its D.O.C. Friuli Aquileia designation. The estate spans a total of 43 hectares, with 11 dedicated to vineyards. In the winery, modern equipment such as stainless steel tanks and temperature-controlled fermentation techniques ensure that the wines achieve the high level of quality that has always been the estate’s primary goal.
Great care is devoted to the vineyards, which are meticulously managed according to the characteristics of the local soils. The grapes are of exceptional quality, achieved through rigorous pruning, reduced yields during harvest, and continuous attention to the vines. These are grown using traditional methods while benefiting from modern planting systems.
The region’s unique microclimate, influenced by the sea, warm scirocco winds, dry tramontana winds, and consistent sunshine, along with an average temperature of 14°C and the absence of night frosts, creates ideal conditions for vine cultivation. The soil is of alluvial origin, composed of clay and sand, resting on a stony plateau from the Quaternary period, contributing to the distinctiveness of the wines produced at Villa Vitas.
