About Winery and Wines

VIV, in Piedmontese dialect “alive”, is a winemaking project of a Piedmontese family with a long agricultural history behind, that has always refused to accept the ways of conventional grape growing. Along the years, we researched different agricultural methods that weren’t aligned to the conventional way, and we adopted these in our farming and winemaking processes. VIV Winery is the project of Ilaria (daughter) and Alessandro (father), who share a passion for natural winemaking and deep roots in the land of Monferrato, on a hill of San Marzano Oliveto, where their ancestors lived and took care of the land for generations.

We believe that anything that nature can do is something that we don’t need to do ourselves - and nature really knows how to do anything that is needful. While doing so, nature is functional and efficient, and always guarantees the best possible quality, the identity and uniqueness of its product. This is what we observe, while working in our vineyards and winery with low-intervention techniques, that are aimed at respecting nature and its rythms, as well as wine and its aromas and characteristics given by the vintage, soils and quality of our grapes.

Our is structured around respecting biodiversity and environmental sustainability, from grape growing to winemaking. Inside the winery, we work according to minimalistic principles, both in the processes and in the materials that we use. We don't use any wood barrels. The vinification process is overall very simple and gets down to the transformation of grapes into wine, that is bottled ready to drink when still young. The packaging is 100% recyclable and we use crown caps for the majority of our wines, which we believe to be simple, modern, and reliable. Lowest ecological footprint and resilience are part of our methodology since the very beginning.

We grow indigenous grape varieties such as Moscato Bianco (white, aromatic grape), Barbera (black grape), Dolcetto (black grape), and a small production of Moscato Nero (black, aromatic grape).

Our wine production currently includes six labels:

Universi Paralleli - a sparkling rosé wine (ancestral method), fruity and lightly aromatic

Natura Estatica - a skin-contact white wine from an aromatic grape variety

Ombra Lunga - a lighter red wine to drink chilled

L'Onirico Vignaiolo - a still red wine from a typical but less common grape variety

L'Onirico Assaggiatore - a still red wine that is well structured, from a single grape variety that is typical from Monferrato

Anima della Terra Moscato d'Asti DOCG - a sparkling sweet wine, fully aromatic
