Since 1491. More than five centuries have passed since the day the first vine was planted within Castello di Uviglie property. Now like then, this cultivation preserves the identity of the castle and the land. The same that stands out for its exceptional terroir, made of secluded hills, white lands, and millenary, underground quarries. Since 2020, the Bonzano Family is looking after this all. It is the one who has channeled, into one place, the viticultural attitude of Monferrato’s hills and a dream shared by many different generations. A dynamic production reality that acts, under the sign of sustainability, towards one promise: to admire Monferrato as one of the most prestigious lands of Piedmont, protecting its autochthonous vineyards while carrying out an excellent experimentation - the Spumante Metodo Classico. Castello di Uviglie is the Story of the people who have inhabited this place and have turned it into a reference point for the wine industry in the Monferrato area. It is the Tradition of who, like the Bonzano Family, cultivates and respects what has been, while looking towards the newest productive technologies.

Our family business was founded in 1800. Situated on a picturesque hill in Canale, in the center of the Roero wine region in Piedmont. We are a diversified company, which not only produces wine, but is dedicated to the breeding of Piedmontese cattle and the cultivation of fruit trees: the "round and gentle Langa" hazelnut and ancient varieties of apricots. The first traces of our family date back to the Middle Ages. The Rabinos, at the time lords of Bosia and Borgomale, were forced to flee the Alta Langa to protect themselves from frequent barbarian invasions. They found refuge in the Roero hills, in a valley that took the name Rabini. These lands that have welcomed us, the same ones that we still work and protect today, remained in the hands of our family over the centuries, allowing us to derive our livelihood through farming and cultivation. Wine production started in the mid-1800s: Antonio Rabino decided to buy some wooden barrels and make wine from his own grapes, a practice that was not very popular at the time. The first liters were reserved for family and friends, and didn’t represent any source of income, but Antonio dreamt of sharing with others what quickly became a passion. Thus he began to bottle, at a time when the concept of marketing of wine didn’t yet exist. He was one of the first to sell in bottles and, given the growing demand, seeing great potential in this small production.  From the time of Antonio to today many men have followed one another, teaching each other the art of working the land, trampling the same fields and taking care of the same vineyards. The continuity of our centuries-old history has meant that from generation to generation the experience was preserved, gradually adding bricks to what is now a solid and protective wall, which allows us to always focus on quality. Over time, the company has evolved by adopting the most modern techniques for processing, but remaining faithful to the cycle of nature. We can define ourselves sustainable, as almost all the resources used are produced directly in the company.
