About the Winery
The vineyard reaches from the foot of the Merkur Mountains-313 meters (1027 feet) above sea level-south-southeast into the Murg Valley.: The Staufenberger Grossenberg. Rich, healthy grapes result from a biologically intact environment so we maintain a variety of native plants and animals which thrive in our vineyard, enhancing the cultivation of our grapevines. Our grapevines are nourished with all natural fertilizers and minerals: No synthetic chemicals are used. Our goal is to work economically in harmony with nature. We gladly comply with stringent guidelines provided by the European Common Market Standard for Ecological Agriculture.
Only two percent of European wines are organically produced. The wines of Staufenberger Grossenberg are proudly counted in this elite group. Fully ripened grapes-organically grown are the basis for our wines. The grapes are carefully hand-picked and delivered to our wine cellar at harvest time.
Old Town Hall Gernsbach
The 'Altes Rathaus', the Old Town Hall, was erected in 1618 in a Renaissance style on the marketplace in the old town of Gernsbach. Today, serving as the central seat of our business, its ground floor harbors the shop where we present our wines.
The Old Town Hall's historical cellar with its cross-vaulted ceiling creates a one-of-a-kind ambiance, ideal not only for intimate and unique wine tastings but also for festivities and cultural events of almost any kind.
Here you will be allowed to taste, enjoy, and select the wine best suitable to your preference, comfortably distanced from rush and bother.
About the Wines
The ripe and healthy white wine grapes, from organic cultivation, are pressed as whole grapes. The red wine is produced with mash fermentation. The light, fruity wines are fermented and stored in steel tanks without being influenced in taste by wood and oxidation.
The red wine is stored in wooden barrels from 13% vol. Now it is shaped micro-oxidatively and microbiologically by the oak barrel. Here we produce red wines of the classic kind, with a vintage character that we cultivate. We do not add anything, we do not take anything away, we want to vinify what nature gives us in the best possible way into a wine that is pure in terms of variety, location and vintage. Depending on the weather conditions, each vintage has its own acidity, sugar and alcohol content. This results in wines with very different characters. Phenomenal wine, magical building, wonderful people - five stars isn't enough
From the moment we arrived, Sara and Rainer made us feel completely welcome, and what followed was an experience we'll remember for a very long time. Rainer conducted the tasting, and he is something special: an extraordinarily talented wine historian with a sharp comedic wit and a deep, wide-ranging knowledge of German history and the stories of the local area. He brings the wine to life, unlike any other tasting we've done before, weaving history, humour and place into every glass. We could have listened to him all day.
And the wine itself is phenomenal. Genuinely the best we've tasted, and remarkably reasonably priced given how good it is - extraordinary value for the quality in the glass. We also opted to try their vinegar and some of Rainer's warming and wonderful whisky, which we can't recommend highly enough. Every single thing we tasted was a delight.
Beyond the wine, Sara and Rainer are simply very special, one of a kind people - warm, generous, endlessly kind and hugely knowledgeable. The building itself is beautiful, the crown jewel of Gernsbach, with a spiritual, magical quality to it that makes the whole experience feel even more memorable.
If you're anywhere near the Baden-Baden area, this is the best wine tasting hands down. You will not regret it. We're already planning to come back - next time with a much bigger suitcase so we can take home even more of this wonderful wine.

Wine Tasting
It was a great time, and we laughed a lot.
There's no accounting for taste, as they say. Since I'm not much of a wine drinker, not all of them tasted so good to me. However, the Prosecco and the Rosé were very delicious. But you absolutely have to try the vinegar, it was really good.

Unique and Historical tasting
The wines were unique. Admittedly, I’m not much of a Riesling fan, but I have been converted! Several different Pinots, some sweet and others dry, it was great to taste and see the difference juxtaposed in glassware. We walked away with several bottles as well as sparkling wine as a generous surprise!
The charcuterie was plentiful and the cheese selection could be a bit more varied, but you’re there for the wines so that’s a minor observation,
Overall, an engaging wonderful way to spend the afternoon with friends to learn more about wine from a historical wine region with someone who is passionate about wine about his craft.
We won’t forget Rainier’s stories! The Pinot Noirs were my favorite. We also walked away with a painting that will commemorate our time in Gernsbach fondly when we open a bottle next year on our anniversary. Great communication all around between Sara and Rainier,

Seven wines, a thousand stories: a tasting to remember
We tried seven fantastic organic wines, paired with local cheeses and cured meats.
We spent a long, fascinating time chatting with Rainer, who introduced us to his wines and shared his personal story.
The atmosphere was so warm and inviting, set in a beautiful historic building and surrounded by an art exhibition that made the space even more special.
Sara, his wife, was also incredibly kind and welcoming.
It was an amazing experience — one we’d happily repeat without a doubt.
