Full Day Private Wine & Art Tour of Bairrada DOC incl. Tastings from Coimbra
Here is what's in store for you
We will leave Coimbra in the morning, heading towards the demarcated Bairrada wine region. This area is renowned for both white and red wines, produced from traditional grape varieties such as the emblematic Baga, alongside international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bairrada is also famous for its sparkling wines, widely awarded internationally and traditionally paired with the region’s iconic dish: roasted suckling pig.
Our panoramic route will take us through the vineyards to Caves Aliança - Underground Museum. During the visit, the connection between wine, gastronomy and art becomes clear, as this remarkable space combines wine cellars with an impressive art collection. We will end this visit with a small tasting to open the appetite:
Sparkling Wine Flûte Tasting
Tasting of sparkling wine served in a flûte glass.
Mini Roasted Suckling Pig Rolls
Two mini rolls per person, filled with traditional Portuguese roasted suckling pig.
After this you will have 1 hour of free time for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy a true “Bairrada table” experience.
After lunch, we continue to Vista Alegre, the oldest porcelain factory in the Iberian Peninsula, founded in 1824. Here you will learn about the porcelain production process and observe the work of the artists behind these iconic pieces. Vista Alegre produces around 10 million units per year, exported worldwide.
On weekdays, it is possible to visit the workshop and watch the artists hand-painting the porcelain live.
Before returning to Coimbra, you will have free time at the Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro shops, perfect for choosing a unique souvenir to take home.
This tour is a unique opportunity to discover the secrets of local gastronomy and enology, both considered true forms of art. These traditions have also inspired other artistic expressions that fill Portuguese homes and are now appreciated worldwide: handicrafts, tableware, porcelain and crystal glassware.
