Full-Day Madeira Wine Tour from Funchal with Visits to 3 Producers, Wine Tastings & Lunch

Over the course of the day, in addition to tasting a variety of wines produced on the island, the journey will follow the entire wine-making process — starting from the vineyard and ending with a glass of wine.

The day begins in the heart of Funchal at Blandy’s Wine Lodges, one of the oldest and most prominent Madeira Wine producers on the island. The Blandy family, of English origin, has owned this prestigious wine house for over two centuries, and today the younger generations continue the tradition. A guided tour of their historic cellars reveals the process behind Madeira wine production, followed by a tasting of two fortified Madeira wines.

After this tasting, the route heads to the northern coast of the island, to the municipality of São Vicente, the second-largest grape-growing region in Madeira.

Here lies the next stop: Quinta do Barbusano, a wine producer surrounded by scenic vineyards that include a range of grape varieties. Since 2006, Quinta do Barbusano has produced white, rosé, and red wines. While Verdelho (a high-quality white wine) is the flagship, the red wines have also gained growing popularity. A traditional lunch of beef skewers grilled on bay laurel wood is served among the vines—often prepared by the producer himself—and paired with several of the estate’s still wines, all accompanied by stunning vineyard views.

Following lunch, the journey continues to a panoramic viewpoint, offering awe-inspiring views of the landscape—a perfect opportunity for photos and to admire the natural beauty of Madeira.

Before returning to Funchal, the final stop is at Vinhos Barbeito, a renowned Madeira Wine producer located in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. Established in 1949 and family-run ever since, Vinhos Barbeito has built an outstanding reputation for the quality of its fortified wines, gaining international acclaim. The visit includes a final tasting of these premium Madeira wines.
