Here is what's in store for you
Wachau is the most beautiful stretch of the Danube river, stretching for about 33 km between Melk and Krems. Explore this wonderful area, characterized by picture-postcard villages, rolling hills with terraced vineyards, ancient castles, and fortresses!
You will meet your private guide at the main entrance of Vienna's Westbahnhof railway station at 8:00 am and travel by train for about one hour to reach Melk. Alternatively, you can meet your guide in Melk at 9:30 am. Here you will prepare your kayaks and participate in a safety briefing before departing.
The tour will start in west Wachau, where the weather is too cold for wine production, however, you'll be amazed by the vast fruit orchards and elegant palaces that you'll be able to admire atop the hills while kayaking right at the heart of the Danube river!
Your first stop will be Spitz, a charming village located halfway through the valley, marking the beginning of the wine-growing region. The area is known for its classic expressions of dry Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, and the unique Neuburger. Here you will visit one of the finest wine producers in town for an extensive wine tasting.
After continuing downstream for a bit longer, you will stop at a small historical hamlet to take a break and enjoy lunch (not included).
In the afternoon, you will paddle through the eastern Wachau, where the steep valleys transform into rows of medieval dry stone walls and rows of vines.
Your last stop will be Durnstein, the undisputed gem of Wachau, where you will have the opportunity to admire its castle ruins overlooking the Danube, where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192.
Finally, after a full day of activities, it will be time to head back to Vienna, which you should reach around 7 pm.
