Nebbiolo Wine Tasting & Winery Tour at Cantina Menegola in Valtellina

Discover one of the most authentic expressions of Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo, with a wine tasting experience at Cantina Menegola, a family-run winery in the heart of the prestigious Sassella area, just outside Sondrio.

Led with passion by Walter, Orlando, and Italo Menegola since 2006, the winery is dedicated to heroic viticulture in Valtellina, where steep terraced vineyards are worked entirely by hand. During the guided tour, you will learn about the winery’s “Vigna in Vino” philosophy, its respectful approach to the land, and the unique character of vineyards grown on clay and rocky soils, with some vines over a hundred years old.

The visit is followed by a guided tasting of 5 wines that reveal the elegance, complexity, and Alpine identity of Valtellina Nebbiolo. The selection includes Valtellina Superiore DOCG Orante, from 35-year-old vines on clay soil; Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG Pergiulio, made from dried grapes and marked by sweet spices and great structure; Valtellina Superiore DOCG Sassella Rupestre, from 65-year-old vines on rocky soil; Sassella Riserva DOCG, produced from century-old vines and aged for at least 4 years; and Nebbiolo delle Alpi, presented through a vertical tasting of vintages from 2016 to 2022.

The wines are unfiltered and aged in large French oak barrels, allowing each vineyard and vintage to express its own identity. The tasting is accompanied by a platter of typical Valtellina cured meats and sciatt, creating a complete food and wine experience rooted in local Alpine tradition.
