Begin your private day trip to Orvieto with a private transfer from Rome to the scenic hill town, an ancient Etruscan site with stunning views over the Umbrian countryside. Set atop a tuff hill, Orvieto will captivate you with its Medieval charm and impressive fortifications.
Your visit starts at the Gothic Cathedral, with its ornate facade of mosaics and bas-reliefs. Inside, discover the “Day of Judgment” frescoes by Fra Angelico and Luca Signorelli, as well as relics from the Miracle of Bolsena. Next, you will pass in front of the Papal Palace, a grand Gothic structure across the square, followed by a walk through Orvieto's streets filled with Renaissance and Gothic palaces (viewed from the outside).
Next, you'll visit St. Patrick’s Well, carved over 200 feet into the tuff, where you'll admire remarkable spiral staircases that descend without crossing paths. Where do we meet?
To optimize your precious time, we pick you up from all hotels, apartments, and B&Bs located within a radius of 10 kilometers from the Pantheon. Kindly wait in the lobby of your hotel and inform the concierge you are waiting for a private driver. In case of a B&B or apartment, please stay in the street in front of the civic number.
How should you be dressed?
Remember to cover your shoulders and knees before entering the Basilica. There are no contraindications for the descent to the well, but remember that you have to go down 248 steps and the same number of ascents. The steps are wide and comfortable, and the well is well-lit up to the depth (53 meters).
