Sangiovese wine experience at Tenuta Folonari in Chianti Classico

At Tenuta di Nozzole in Greve in Chianti, close to Florence on the northern side of Chianti Classico, this experience follows Sangiovese beyond a single appellation and across several Tuscan territories. A member of the Folonari hospitality team guides you through the barrel room and the collection of historic Folonari labels dating from 1980 onwards, before you settle into the tasting room.

At Tenuta di Nozzole, you'll taste 5 red wines, each offering a different interpretation of Sangiovese: La Forra Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, the historic Riserva of Tenuta di Nozzole; Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG from the Maremma hinterland, with a fresh, savoury character; TorCalvano Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, based mainly on the local Prugnolo Gentile expression of Sangiovese; La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, made from Sangiovese in the historic Camigliano area southwest of Montalcino; and Cabreo Mytho Toscana IGT, a pure Sangiovese with a richer style shaped by extended ageing in French oak. Moving from Chianti Classico to Montecucco, Montepulciano, and Montalcino gives you a vivid sense of how Tuscany's signature red grape changes with place and style.

The wines are accompanied by a selection of Tuscan specialties, including semi-aged, aged, and truffle pecorino cheeses, Tuscan Prosciutto, Finocchiona, crostini with chicken liver pâté, and Pappa al Pomodoro. You'll also taste extra virgin olive oil served on toasted bread, completing a journey through different expressions of Sangiovese and traditional Tuscan flavors.
