Here is what's in store for you
We will learn the history of one of the most elaborate wines from the Priorat area. The history of kosher wine is deeply rooted in Jewish laws and traditions, known as the kashrut laws. These laws regulate the diet and lifestyle of Jewish people and cover various aspects, including the preparation and consumption of food and drinks, such as wine.
We will leave Barcelona heading to the Priorat region, arriving on the outskirts of Falset, in a small town with just 500 inhabitants, surrounded by mountains full of history.
We will arrive at the Celler de Capcanes winery. A Jewish winery hidden in the Priorat area. There we will learn that for a wine to be considered kosher, it must meet certain requirements from harvest to bottling. It is interesting to note that a kosher wine can come from any vineyard in the world and that any varietal is allowed, with the strict rule that they must be harvested and processed by observant Jews. The entire winemaking process, from pressing to bottling, must be supervised by a Jewish authority. Kosher wines carry a kosher certification seal from a recognized rabbinical authority. This seal indicates that the wine has been made in accordance with kashrut laws.
After learning about their process, we will go in to taste their most characteristic wines, we will try their rosé wine, and their Peraj Ha’abib wine, which is the wine that marked their history.
After this interesting visit, we will take the route to Falset, the capital of the Priorat region. This region is known for its production of high-quality wines.
There we will get to know the Catadral del Vino through an outside visit. It is a winery, or rather an architectural jewel, halfway between modernism and novocentism.
Exposed brick, stone, plaster and ceramics come together to achieve a characteristic aesthetic and striking shapes. Large classically inspired arcades, lots of light in the interiors and all the technological details of the time applied to winemaking.
We will continue our route to the town of Porrera, located in the interior of the Priorat Mountain area
There we will have time to eat, with casual or gourmet options, according to the preferences of each client (not included)
There we will make a second visit and tasting in a Local Winery.
Porrera has a wine history that dates back to Roman times. The vineyards in this area have been cultivated for centuries, and the winemaking tradition has been passed down from generation to generation.
Porrera is one of the towns that form part of the Priorat Designation of Origin, one of the most prestigious wine regions in Spain. It is known for the cultivation of grape varieties such as Garnacha (Grenache) and Cariñena (Carignan), which are essential in the production of Priorat red wines.
We will return to Barcelona, observing the beautiful landscapes, which seem taken from a storybook.
