Wine tour & Tasting at Tenuta di Pietra Porzia

Tired of walking around the great city of Rome or do you want to escape for a moment from the crowded streets of the Capital city? Well, choose this Tenuta di Pietra Porzia tasting experience and you'll find a peaceful location not too far from Rome. 

The Estate extends over an area of 57 acres with vineyards and olive groves. At just 18 Km from Rome, in the Castelli Romani area, "Tenuta di Pietra Porzia" includes 47 acres of vineyards from the production of Frascati and Castelli Romani red wine, with also 10 acres of olive groves producing extra virgin oil.

History here began in 496 a. C.: in a large amphitheater with the lake Regillo in the center, Romans and Latins face each others in a hard battle, at the crucial moment the Dioscuri, the twins born by Jupiter, fall from the sky and lead Romans to victory! The battle theater is today "Tenuta di Pietra Porzia".

With a big jump in history, let's go back to our days..Today the perfectly aligned vineyard rows occupy the first hills and the ancient Regillo lake. The vineyard is planted with old vines of Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano Toscano, Greco and Bombino used for Frascati DOC; Montepulciano, Merlot and Lecinaro used for Castelli Romani Red Wine.

Choosing this wine tasting experience you will be welcomed at the estate and follow a tour of the historic winery and cellar, with an explanation of the wine making process of the Tenuta di Pietra Porzia. These are the wines that you will taste:

- Frascati Superiore DOCG Gold Label: a prestigious Frascati with a complex bouquet linked to old vines exalted by several months of aging in stainless steel tanks. 

- DOC Roma Rosso Gold Label: a great structure and perfume

- Canellino di Frascati DOCG: A sweet wine obtained from Lazio Malvasia late harvested grapes

The tasting will be accompanied by bread with the estate's olive oil and some biscuits.

At the end of the tasting, you will also visit the old cellar where you'll be able to see the ancient caves! The old cellar consists of several tunnels for a total of 400 meters, hollowed into the tuff at a depth of 10 meters, around 2000 years ago. In the galleries, some niches hold 120 wine butts of 100 kg each. A careful refurbishing has integrally restored the cellar, nowadays dedicated to visits and tasting.
