5 Wine tasting at Velenosi (Grace)My sister and I went to Ascoli Piceno for the last few days of our tour in Italy. It was important for us because our grandparents came from that region in the beginning of the 20th century. Our tour guide Stephane met us at the hotel and drove us to Velenosi winery. The winery is on a slope surrounded be vineyards and an olive grove. You can see the mountains in the distance. Francesco our guide spoke English perfectly and explained to us the environmental factors that contribute to the taste of the wine. We had a lovely white wine called ‘Pecorino’ that goes well with snacks, chicken, fish, cheese. Pecorino has a beautiful light color and kind of sweet. The second wine that we tasted was a red wine, more full bodied called ‘Brecciarolo’. A very smooth wine that pairs well with meat and almost anything. We had another white wine but I cannot remember the name. Anyway, there were an assortment of cheese, prosciutto and other regional specialities to go with the wine. I brought the Pecorino and the Brecciarolo back to Paris with me. My family loved the wine. Now I have to find more. Stephane took us back to the hotel but no before showing us a local site or two. It was a great experience. Thanks.

4 Tasting Piceno (Giulia)A free Saturday morning, I decide to visit one of the most renowned establishments in the province of Ascoli Piceno. I book a tasting for 11 a.m. and at the wine shop I'm greeted by Giulio, the young man in charge of hospitality at the shop, who is waiting for me to taste the wines from their different ranges. The visit is pleasant, detailed, and precise. The wines are excellent, with a fabulous quality-price ratio, and you can tell that the person explaining them to me is knowledgeable and passionate. Two hours fly by without me even noticing! When the weather is nice they also do visits to the vineyard, a shame to have chosen an overcast day! I would have liked to also visit the production cellar, but unfortunately on Saturdays it's not possible!
