LE STRIE
(Winery in Sondrio)
Provides 1 wine tasting and winery visit from €25.00
Le Strie winery, established in 2003 by Stefano, Paolo, Luciana, and Marisa, is a small yet deeply committed family-run winery located in the heart of the Valtellina valley. Despite none of us being originally from this region—Paolo and Marisa from Venice, Luciana from Marche, and Stefano from Rome—we all share a profound passion for winemaking and have embraced the rich winemaking traditions of Valtellina. Situated northeast of Milan, in the midst of the Alps and near Lake Como, our vineyards thrive on ancient terraced slopes that have been cultivated for centuries. The soil here is sandy and acidic, filled with stones, which creates the perfect environment for growing Nebbiolo, the primary grape variety of our region. Our journey began in 1993 when Stefano and Paolo, both graduates in agricultural science, met in Sondrio for work. By 1995, we had started cultivating vines, and in 2002, we made the pivotal decision to produce our own wine, focusing on crafting wines that express the unique terroir of Valtellina. We practice sustainable viticulture, employing the Guyot method, avoiding herbicides, and using integrated pest control. Our grapes are hand-harvested with great care, ensuring that only the best fruit reaches our cellar, where fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Our commitment to minimal intervention results in wines with low sulfur levels, no clarifications, and only slight filtration before bottling, offering a true taste of Valtellina’s heritage.

Mamete Prevostini
(Winery in Sondrio)
It was at the beginning of the last century when my Grandparents decided to dedicate their lives to what is now known as an “agriturismo”.
They grew their own fruit and vegetables and produced homemade hams, sausages and cheese, and, of course, wine. They were lucky enough to have a natural fridge in a cavity between the mountain rocks, "Crotto" in italian, where the humidity and temperature were maintained by the prevailing wind.
They started by offering their products to passers by, who often stopped to enjoy a hearty meal in the shade provided by the trees. I grew up admiring and helping my Father who replicated the hospitality offered by my Grandparents. One memory which I will never forget is the aroma of the “must”, or as yet unfermented grape juice, which filled the air during the Autumn months.
These days my sister runs the “Crotasc” restaurant in the renovated building, where during the summer you can still eat outside in the shade of the chestnut trees, just like old times.
In the cave I have set aside the best years of my Valtellina wines to rest, just as if it were my own personal caveau. Here I look after the memories and history of my family.
Balgera Vini di Balgera Paolo e C. Sas
(Winery in Sondrio)
Balgera Vini is one of the longest-standing wine producers in Valtellina, active since 1885 in Chiuro, in the villa of a patriot who served Mazzini: generation after generation, descendents of the founder Pietro Balgera passed on the secrets and values of tradition, through to the present day.
Arpepe
(Winery in Sondrio)
We are a family of winegrowers and, for over 150 years, we have been passionately devoted to the cultivation of Nebbiolo. This is a rare grape variety that, over the centuries, has adapted to the Valtellina, a land like no other, where everything is still done by hand. For 5 generations we have always waited for “the time it takes” “the right waiting time” and it is this that sets the pace of our work. Time and humility are what make our wine the purest, sincerest expression of this land and of the people who cultivate it with such dedication. This was the lesson we were taught by our father Arturo, without letting ourselves be influenced by passing fashions and conventional tastes.
We are convinced that the outstanding qualities of Nebbiolo from the Alps means it is more than worthy of its place of honour on the international market of fine wines. Without this worldwide acknowledgement, this age-old activity would simply not be economically sustainable for it rejects any idea of modern mass-production.
Nino Negri
(Winery in Sondrio)
Valtellina lies north of Lake Como in the province of Sondrio. It is sheltered from the cold northern winds by the magnificent mountain chain of the Rhaetian Alps. The Valley, which runs 40 kms from east to west, is exposed to the sun all day. It is divided into four sub-zones that give their names to the different types of wine produced here: Grumello, Sassella, Inferno and Valgella. The territory has two DOCGs, the more widespread Valtellina Superiore and the Sforzato di Valtellina.
Rivetti & Lauro
(Winery in Sondrio)
It was the dawn of a day in late winter. We were watching the light entering the valley, invading it slowly, moving the darkness and the muffled clouds. All the vineyards around us seemed to listen to our thoughts. Maybe they are the ones they have asked us to join this adventure.Or maybe our souls were just thirsty for this new adventure. That morning our flight has begun.
The snow that begins melting and with the first sun of spring the crying of the vines begins. Everything spring up again and from that moment everything will be transformed by the accurate hands of the vine-dressers. Until the fruit and its harvest. Hands that pick up the grape full of colors and perfumes. The hands of the cellarmen that transform the fruit into wine. Earth and sky have become Wine. The Nebbiolo of the mountains.
The magnificent land of Valtellina runs between the Alps from east to west and lets the rhaetian side exposed to sun and cool winds. A land borrowed from the mountains by the secular work of man, transformed to give us marvellous vineyards. A valley run by the Adda river from the peaks to the Lake of Como, which give a unique climate with an unceasing flow.
Azienda Agricola Folini
(Winery in Sondrio)
My name's Francesco and I like to call myself a kind of a super hero of Valtellina, like spiderman or something....
HERO: because if Valtellina viticulture is called heroic, the workers are heroes; SUPER: in order to always motivate me. "With great power comes great responsibility" and we farmers are given the task of protecting, safeguarding and teaching how to live our territory."
I like to define my home, now my agriturismo, as a seaport. I have memories from my childhood of many friends and friends of friends, who would stop by the house for a glass of wine, dinner or even just coffee.
I have a family full of imagination, personality, ingenuity, warmth and love: they taught me the importance of happiness and hospitality. With them I feel stimulated every day to grow and strive to pursue my dream.
A set of different but complementary figures that create an extraordinary mix of warmth and rare spontaneity.
Caven Camuna
(Winery in Sondrio)
The CAVEN CAMUNA winery was established in 1982 by the brothers Stefano and Simone Nera.
The name derives from the fact that in ancient times a place called Caven, where the wine estate’s premises are situated, was inhabited by a Camunian population, of which archaeological finds of historical value have been uncovered, arousing great interest among researchers and experts on the subject. One of these rock drawings, called “Mother Earth” – the symbol of fertility and the industriousness of this civilization – undoubtedly the most interesting, is preserved in palazzo Besta in Teglio. A path called “The archaeological path of Caven” , which crosses the places where these archaeological finds were discovered, has also been built.
