About Winery and Wines

Here at Falezze, we are truly passionate about creating a limited edition of exclusive Valpolicella for those who love and appreciate the finest wines.

Our company has been run by the same family for three generations and its history dates back more than eighty-five years. It is located in the municipality of Illasi, in the Valle di Mezzane, in the production area of Valpolicella DOC (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin).

Our home and winery is surrounded by hazelnut and oak woods, olive groves and historic vineyards in a unique environment that is ideal for growing vines. Wine has always been made here, and still today we use traditional methods and respect the rhythms of nature and the seasons. From our home, and particularly from the terrace where we have our tastings, we look out over a vast, rolling landscape like no other. It extends all the way from the slopes of the Lessini mountains down to the Po valley.

“I think of my wine as a work of art. A work created by the sensations it conveys and perfectly reflecting the landscape from which it emerges.”

AMARONE RISERVA

exclusive numbered edition with a different subject for each single bottle

AMARONE RISERVA 2012. Exclusive numbered edition with a different subject for each single bottle.

A project that came from an idea by Luca Anselmi and Sofia Kherkeladze, with the participation of Maestro Niko Kherkeladze.

A limited and numbered collection: 400 exclusive bottles, in presentation boxes made from ancient fir and pine wood recovered from old farmhouses in Trentino, combining the aura of memory with a close attention to sustainability.

Everything in the 2012 Amarone Riserva conveys a sense of great tradition and respect.

A return to the origins of the blend, with bunches of grapes selected from vines that are over 80 years old. A return to the idea of the inimitability of an artistic creation, because each bottle is a unique piece, each one with a different subject on the label.

A return for Niko Kherkeladze to his own artistic themes, in this case to his beloved equestrian subjects, which are appreciated the world over.

AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA

grapes grown for three generations, with natural drying, or appassimento modellato

Amarone della Valpolicella Falezze uses only grapes from the Falezze estate, which have been grown for three generations by the family of Luca Anselmi, who personally oversees every aspect of cultivation. Repeated selections, during the harvest and twice during the appassimento, ensure that only the best bunches are used, to create a wine that is clean and naturally sculpted in the vineyard. Vinification with slow movement of the skins and subsequent ageing in oak barrels creates an exclusive Amarone with a ruby-red texture with a purplish tinge. The bouquet reflects the essence of the territory, with morello cherry, plum and forest fruits, always with elegant notes of cocoa and tobacco. The complexity on the nose is confirmed on the palate, with great structure, a full, velvety touch with considerable roundness and a persistent finish. To be paired with exceptional and traditional dishes, it maintains its characteristics for over 10 years.

VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO SUPERIORE

obtained by second fermentation on Amarone skins

The creation of Valpolicella Ripasso Falezze involves placing the finest bunches from the harvest in late September in crates, which remain in the drying room for a month and a half. The slightly withered grapes are vinified for the first time after Saint Martin’s Day, 11 November, to obtain a Valpolicella Superiore that then undergoes a second fermentation on Amarone skins. This is how Valpolicella Ripasso is created, with its ruby red colour with garnet and orangey highlights.

The nose is floral, with hints of ripe, still fresh fruit. The palate is linear, with acid-tangy notes, and a harmonious balance of minerality, which comes from a soil that consists partly of stone flakes and partly of volcanic earth, and a tannin content that gives a dry, persistent finish.

VALPOLICELLA SUPERIORE FALEZZE

a brief appassimento, or natural drying, with ageing in French oak tonneaux

Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta vines that are over 60 years old are used to make Valpolicella Superiore Falezze DOC: the SW-NE aspect and calcareous soils, well drained and rich in gravel, give the mouth and nose distinct perceptions of forest fruits, wild strawberries and whortleberries, sour cherries and ripe morello cherries. The grapes are harvested in September-October and subjected to short natural appassimento drying. After fermentation, ageing in French oak tonneaux. On the palate the wine is well structured and supple, with the minerality typical of the Falezze estate, and a persistence in the mouth that calls for another sip. To be enjoyed alone or with an ample range of pairings. Bottled in Bordeaux bottles, numbered by hand, with one-piece natural cork.
