About Winery and Wines
Azienda Agricola Cosimo Murace has been a family-run business since 1998, founded and managed by Cosimo Murace, who is both a winemaker and enologist. A passionate individual dedicated to his work, nature, and people, Cosimo adopted organic farming methods from the very beginning, achieving organic certification with the very first vintage. In 1996, he also obtained the Bivongi DOC appellation. His journey in the wine industry began at the age of 18, working for a wine company for nearly 10 years before establishing his own brand. The company is now based in Bivongi, a charming village located just 20 km from the Ionian coast of Calabria, with a small vineyard of 3 hectares nestled in the surrounding hills.
Since 2020, Cosimo’s daughter, Valentina, has joined the business, bringing a fresh perspective by redesigning the labels, updating the website and social media presence, and introducing new experiences such as wine tastings at the winery and the "Tour in Vigna" experience (a guided vineyard tour followed by a wine tasting), giving greater visibility to her father's work.
In Bivongi, the first vineyards were introduced in the 7th century by Byzantine monks who settled in the region. Wine production here remains limited, as only grapes from three heroic vineyards are used, cultivated on steep slopes that are naturally preserved by favorable conditions such as wind, sun, and underground water sources.
Azienda Agricola Cosimo Murace produces three wines:
Valle della Saetta: A white wine made from Malvasia, Guardavalle, and Ansonica grapes.
Fiorello: A rosé wine made from 100% Gaglioppo.
Cosmì: A red wine blend of Gaglioppo, Greco Nero, and Calabrese Nero.
Additionally, the estate produces a traditional regional product called Mosto Cotto, made by cooking the must from red grapes.
Another wine, Les Petites Filles, is a Passito, a dessert wine crafted from Malvasia grapes.
The taste of these wines is deeply rooted in the local terroir, reflecting the unique identity and characteristics of the region.
