Winery in Maremma

About the Winery

Villa Corano Winery is nestled in the heart of Maremma Toscana, just 20 minutes from the famous Terme di Saturnia and a mere 3 km from the enchanting medieval village of Pitigliano. Founded and managed by Stefano Formiconi, a pioneer of Maremma viticulture, Villa Corano benefits from his 40 years of experience in selecting and planting native and international grape varieties suited to this unique, wine-rich land. The winery's scenic entrance, flanked by an avenue of cypress trees, leads visitors to a well-equipped cellar with dedicated areas for fermentation and aging wines in barriques. Outside, under a centuries-old oak tree, guests can enjoy wine tastings and local products while taking in the beauty of the surrounding nature. Blending tradition with modern winemaking technologies, Villa Corano produces distinctive white and red wines that reflect the local flavors and aromas. These wines have been recognized by prestigious guides and are cherished by both connoisseurs and everyday wine lovers.

About the Wines

Villa Corano's selection includes both red and white wines, crafted from carefully chosen native and international grape varieties. Among the red wines is the "Acheo" Rosso I.G.T. Toscana, a robust blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The Alicante Rosso I.G.T. Toscana showcases 100% Alicante grapes, while the "Cor Unum" Sovana Rosso D.O.C. Superiore features a combination of Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and Cabernet Sauvignon. White wines include the Chardonnay Bianco I.G.T. Toscana and the Sauvignon Bianco D.O.C. Maremma Toscana, both made from 100% Chardonnay and Sauvignon grapes, respectively. Other notable offerings are the "Cor Unum" Bianco di Pitigliano D.O.C. Superiore, "Prospero" Rosato I.G.T. Toscana made from Aleatico grapes, and the late-harvest "Gaudium" Bianco I.G.T. Toscana made from Malvasia aromatica. Additionally, the "Nonno Pietro" Rosso I.G.T. Toscana is a late-harvest Aleatico, adding a sweet finish to Villa Corano's impressive wine portfolio.

A corner of paradise on earth
The best time I have spent in Maremma among ripe olives, olive trees grown with wisdom and passion in the shape of huts, inside which you can get lost and find yourself outside again as if at the foot of a Christmas fir tree pointing proudly towards the clear sky. But the strong point of Villa Corano is the host, Stefano Formiconi: a host from another era who conveys his immense knowledge of olive groves, vines, winemaking, and tasting paired with the simple and genuine tastes of bread with organic extra virgin olive oil (and garlic) and cured meats made from the best parts of the pig, as well as cookies made with wine and centuries-old wisdom. My husband and I felt welcomed as if by a friend, who shared with us the secrets of his land, his products, his spirit. We bought every wine we tasted and even more, because opportunities to bring home a little piece of paradise in a bottle at the right price must be seized, to savor its taste even years later, returning in memory to that morning with Stefano…
