BODEGA SAN ESTEBAN
About the Winery
Founded in 1953 by 16 founding members, La Bodega Cooperativa San Esteban is the first wine cooperative in La Rioja, Spain. Situated in the Murillo de Río Leza region, 14 kilometers from the capital Logroño, the winery benefits from a prime location at the confluence of the rivers Jubera and Leza, with vineyards spread across three different altitudes, adding diversity to the wines. The 750 hectares of vineyards are planted on clay-ferrous soils at an altitude of 407-420 meters.
The winery's team provides expert technical advice, overseeing the vineyard's annual cycle from pruning to treatments, ensuring optimal grape quality. The grapes are harvested at peak maturity and under strict oenological control, serving as the foundation for producing exceptional wines that reflect the best of the region’s terroir.
About the Wines
The goal of La Bodega Cooperativa San Esteban is to craft high-quality wines that reflect the winery’s dedication to excellence. As part of the DOCa Rioja (Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja), the portfolio offers a wide variety of wines. These include fresh, young wines with vibrant fruit flavors, robust reds and whites, and barrel-aged wines with rich character, some of which have earned high scores from Tim Atkin. Additionally, the winery produces the Kairos range, a collection of wines that defy the traditional rules of DOCa Rioja, showcasing a spirit of innovation and a desire to stand out.
