About Winery and Wines
Bodegas Familia Cardeña was founded in 1925 when their great-grandparents embarked on a daily adventure, distributing their precious wine to nearby towns. Despite the long journey, they adapted to changing times by introducing a tractor and truck, making the trip shorter.
The kind people of these towns have left a lasting impression on them. That's why they still follow the same distribution route, appreciating the connection they have with the community. This is the story of Pureza wine, a tale of tradition, dedication, and love for the land. Bodega Familia Cardeña, where the vineyards have stood for over a century, continues the legacy with the same passion as their ancestors. Their commitment to quality has been recognized with several awards, including a recent honor at the prestigious Carlos Falcó Awards.
Bodegas Familia Cardeña, with nearly 100 years of history, is a fourth-generation winery located in the Community of Madrid. The estate primarily cultivates Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Malvar grapes, with some vines over 90 years old. No chemical treatments are applied to the plots, ensuring natural viticulture. The grapes are hand-harvested early in the day to prevent oxidation, and fermentation takes place in a combination of steel and concrete tanks. Minimal filtration preserves the wine’s structure, yielding wines under the DO Vinos de Madrid denomination.
Signature wines include the Pureza red wine, crafted from Garnacha and Tempranillo, as well as Malvar-based white wines and a rosé. The focus is on clean, free-run wines with no pressing, and gentle rackings are carried out to maintain the full aroma and flavor of the grapes. After fermentation, the wines are aged for 3 months in tanks before being bottled for an additional 3 months to achieve a balanced, elegant final product.
