Einzigartiges Weingut

About Winery and Wines
Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha, located in the cool climate of Rioja Alta, is renowned for its innovative and sustainable approach to winemaking. Founded by Juan Carlos Sancha, a professor of enology at the University of La Rioja, the winery focuses on recovering and cultivating minority grape varieties that had nearly disappeared. Situated in the Najerilla Valley, on five hectares of land, Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha specializes in organic, artisan wines made from rare grapes such as Tempranillo Blanco, Maturana Tinta, and Maturana Blanca. These varieties, rediscovered and developed by Sancha and his colleague Fernando Martinez de Toda, bring a fresh perspective to the traditional winemaking of Rioja. The winery’s deep commitment to sustainability, combined with its artisanal methods and innovative vision, results in wines that express the unique terroir of the region. Visitors can experience a true connection to Rioja’s winemaking history and future through each bottle crafted with care and passion.
Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha offers three distinct wine lines, each reflecting the vineyard’s commitment to quality and originality. The "Ad Libitum" range features varietal expressions of rare grapes, including the fresh and aromatic Tempranillo Blanco, the barrel-fermented Maturana Blanca, and the robust, French oak-aged Maturana Tinta. The "Peña El Gato" series highlights Garnacha from century-old vines, including a natural version without sulfur and a unique collection of Garnacha from different terroirs. These wines are known for their depth, elegance, and powerful expression of terroir. Lastly, the "Cerro La Isa" line is made from vineyards planted in 1906, offering singular wines with great complexity, such as the barrel-fermented white blend and a 100% Garnacha aged in premium French oak. Each wine from Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha is a tribute to the rare varieties and ancient vines of Rioja Alta, combining tradition with innovation to produce wines of exceptional character.
